Is my car possessed?

Not sure if my car has been possessed? The mileometer got to 66,666 tonight, at which point one of my speedo back-lights went....then 6 miles later it came back on again!

However, further along the road it died again!.

I can see from PET that these bulbs are 1.2W but without stripping out the speedo to find out, can someone tell me what type of bulbs they are as it looks like they're in separate holders.

Also, can the 1.2W be increased? I want to retain the old, classic yellow light look (no led's for me) but if I can safely go a touch brighter it would be a bonus. I think on my MK1 Golf you could up them safely to either 1.6 or 2.0W but I'm guessing

Cheers

Can you get 'yellow-ish' LED's? - might allow you to retain the originality of the dash whilst benefiting from brighter dials, just a thought.

Possessed? By whom? I thought you owned her?[:)]

Got some bulbs from my old car in the garage, will take a pick tomorrow - today - later - ish

I'll only increase the wattage if I know I can do it safely, to be fair when all the bulbs are working they're not too dim but could be a little brighter. Maybe just replacing them all with new will help?

Checked earlier but I haven't got any spares. They are 1.2w and are mounted in plastic bayonet mounts which push and twist into the circuit board, with the contacts on the top (bulb end) of the mount.

Hope that helps!

Found one - whilst looking for something entirely different!

They come apart easily - the legs are soldered to the contacts but would be easy to replace with LEDs

Thanks for the pic Mike. Looks like they're the same as for my MK1 Golf, in which case I have some new ones lurking in the garage![:D]
