i really really like my 912 mainly because its so original. but, it not the most comftable or reliable so if i keep it i would want to get it fully restored.

this will cost £££ so

I'm not quite sure quite what needs restoring on your car. It had a full body restoration a few years ago and I know you have done quite a bit to it inthe last year or so. It could benefit from a respray because of the paint discolouration, which would cost around £4K, but what is wrong with the rest of it? If its uncomfortable try a pair of BF Nurburgring recliners (that's what had in the car wheen I owned it) and a slightly smaller wheel.

1)all the electrics need sorting as every time Larry gets everything working, i take the car out for a run and by the time i get back something(usually a breaklight) isn't working again []
2)all the charome needs re-doing
3)engine needs a overhaul sometime soon
4) seats need re-padding at the very least but would like to change them to leather (*purely cosmetic and only worth doing if im going to keep the car for a very long time)
5) interior door panels and parcel shelf to match seats if done.(not worth doing unless to match new seats )
6)would like the original radio to work

oh and as you mention it needs a complete down to metal re-spray.

all the above only NEEDS doing cos im a girlie and like all my things to be beautiful and work as if it was new.
everyone else thinks the cars perfect how it is.

Helen why not sort out the niggling problems first , if you have blowing bulbs it's probably due to vibration, bad grounds or old broken wiring, if you can't do it yourself get an auto electrician (one that's recommended and who knows Porsche) and have hime check the wiring out for faults. I'd help you out if I lived over that way, perhaps suggest your car to Gavin for the Technical Arena slot on 912s (10.00 AM Monday) and I'm sure you'd get some sound advice and maybe good contacts for the work too if you do it. If you don't have serious rust issues don't go for a bare metal respray use the paint already there to help provide the base coat.

Didn't this win a recent Concours?

Must be in terrible shape then...[;)]

your quite correct it did win GT Purely Porsche best display car at Walton Hall. but being a girlie i like things shinney and pretty(and working) [:)]

theres nothing wrong with the paint at all, hardly even a stone chip but, who ever last re-painted the car used the wrong undercoat which now after approx 8 years is reacting with the top coat and seaping through the top coat. the only way i can see to stop this happening would be to strip the car right down again to bare metal and start again[]

Restoring an early car won't necessarily make it more comfortable or more reliable.

Many years ago I remember Adrian Yates-Smith was restoring an Irish Green 912. He said it was completely uneconomical, but the car had been owned by one family from new and it was a 'sentimental' restoration.
