Is it time to call it a day

I am an old fart. Have owned my 951 only 12 years. I have decided never sell it. My sons can decide what to do with it when i am six feet under. Most likely i have to buy more these. My eldest son already have a 951 project of his own, two youngest ones have decided to have 951's as well. Luckily they are just 7 & 9, so it will take some time.
Pete, don't sell your 951. You will regret it later.

Pete,

Sorry to hear you have arrived at this crossroads, but I am sure there is a solution where you can eat your cake and have it.

Have you thought about giving the car to your sons, asking them if they would like to have it?

You never know, they might jump at the chance of having dad's turbo, and may even finish it sooner than you might expect... So make sure the deal includes you having visitation rights on ace cafe nights and occasional blasts :) You might also find that helping them to complete it, without you having to complete it, or it being in your way, you might enjoy working on it with them as a distraction from your steam engineering.

You're old enough and wise enough to know this, but whatever you do in life, you need to be happy and please yourself sometimes, if steam engines will rock your boat then go for it, just don't do anything you might regret, like selling your turbo and ending up wishing you had one last blast in her before she went away with a new owner.

It certainly would be good to have a tyre kicking session for hour or two...:)
Well sling a date up on here and I'm sure Rob (travelling eight long miles from W12!) and I will be there with our best sets of kicking boots a-ready ...

haha... Jon my boy's don't like Porsches, too slow for them...:).. seriously though they keep reminding me that an engine build for them to achieve 500bhp is about a third of what I have to spend for the Porsche. A Ford is a very long way from a 944T when it comes to running costs no matter how much we try to kid ourselves, my bearing shells cost £600, the same bearings for a Cosworth are about a third of that... it makes you think. Mind you are I do try to hold my own by reminding them that their Fords seem to break down fairly often..:)

Oli I will have to work out a date for this, would be fun, perhaps when I put the block back into the car. W12 isn't very far from me... 6 miles perhaps?..:)

Pete, A 1000 HP and it is still a Ford with phoney do nothing stick on go faster vents (Focus RS), Money cannot buy taste !
Tons of super tuned Fords and Subarus Mitsi things around here nothing special as they are so common, very able cars mind you, but 0/10 for exclusivivity, is that a word ?

Keep me posted with dates ... although if the aim of the day is to tinker with your machine which is off the road then you will have to host ... !

What bearings cost £600 Pete? Mains and big ends available from ECP for £130 plus VAt for the set. OEM quality as well, just don't come in a very expensive cardboard box.

Whatever you decide todo Pete, good luck to you mate. Sounds to me that you've just gone and got a bit bored with that massive project of your's. Like not being able to" see any light at the end of the tunnel syndrome". I reckon you should go out with the missus, have a nice meal, get as drunk as fcuking monkeys.....thing's will seem different in the morning (albeit with a headache)[:D]. What will be,will be Pete. It's only a car after all. There are far more important things in life.Best wishes whatever you decide mate.

Pete

Ahh Jaysus Pete... This is a classic case of needing a break from it all .. Take a few months off .. Do different stuff...Dont even think about the project

As advised above you need a meet with a few other likeminded folk to get your mojo back

After a few months off you will open the garage door and all will be clearer

Make your decision then whether to sell up or not .. Most importantly dont stop visiting this forum if you do sell up [;)]

Good Luck in whatever you decide Pete

John... hmmm 52 is just a figure, it means little without knowing about the individual concerned, I wish I was a young fit 52 year old, things may be a little different in my mind set. I'm not going to get into my health on this forum but I will say that it's not only the car who's time is running out and leave it at that.

Pete

Hi Pete,

I know we have not met but reading this thread I had to post, the above and indeed in your 1st post you allude to maybe another reason you are maybe thinking of calling it a day that may have been overlooked by most of the replies, replies that generally like us all come from the heart and not the head!

We all love our cars, that is why we are on here, but when it is all said and done sometimes they have to viewed as "just a car" each to there own but if you are having doubts then it maybe time to move on, find something slower a bit more relaxing and if in the end if it doesn't suit well buy another car to tinker with, or join forces with the boys - turn to the Ford side.

Please don't be offended or take my view as negative that is not my intention.

Good luck with what ever you decide.

Hey Pete,
get it built, don't go ott on the spec if money is tight - you already have some good memories with the car, get on the road and get some more!
Tony
