Insurance renewal time.
Privilege, who I have a policy with at the moment increased my renewal by another couple of hundred quid! (why?)
So, after many on-line form filling/telephone calls the result is.... that the majority of companies gave me quotes from £1,300-£2,150. Reading the small print etc. nearly all companies: mods = will not give policy.
Things that crossed my mind were- sell car, put D90s back, move house to an affordable postcode. In no order or do all three!
I had done the rounds, except for one.... Which I purposely kept till last!
'Liverpool Victoria'
Asking only a frighteningly small amount of info. I got the quote which came in at half the price I would have to pay to Privilege and a good few hundred quid less than any of the other 'best' prices! Mission accomplished.
I even tried to volunteer info. such as alloys. Not something they were bothered about. Even gave advice of take a pic of them on the car and keep the invoice etc. I have read on the other threads about policy changing. So all I can say is that today they didn't want to know/mind mods didn't ask about alarm/immobilser ( I did say 'I do have one you know!' It felt more like I was boasting.)
So, after working it out with some fuzzy felt and a spiro giro, which came up with ( if I read it correctly) 'pretty good!'
I went ahead with confirming the policy.
Happy? Yes! So, much so that I would like you to join in with my favourite SONG

Hi Darren,

I've been following a few other threads on LV lately. I think you were one of the lucky ones as it seems to depend on who answers the phone at their end.

I tried them twice and was told no mods acceptable despite knowing that other people have been covered with mods no problem and telling them this, but they still refused to even quote.

I had a lot of trouble this year finding anyone who would quote at all. A lot of the ones who advertise in Porsche Post were only interested if it was a second car or was garaged or driven less than 6000 miles or any combination of these. I must have tried 25 companies and only got 8 or 9 quotes.

Glad you had more luck than me.

I also have been watching the threads and I think they do not like certain mods - roll cage, plastic windows, internal engine modifications.

I have also now seen posts from someone who claimed from them and the service was good, which is nice.

Still yet to hear from anyone claiming on a trackday - I kind of hope I don't as if this occurs they will probably ensure its definitely not covered in future.

I actually need to write them a letter before the next trackday as I had an auto renewal this year so I need some reconfirmation or otherwise on "driving on track with no competitive or timing element"

Insurance is a funny old game (I used to work in it) and it is infinitley variable for every person: age, location, history, modifiations etc.

L&V are known to be targetting insurance for older Porsche because I think on the whole that 'enthusiasts' make fewer claims. However, it only needs a few 20 plus claims to totally change the scene and then at your next renewal we will be refused or the price will go up.

I've just renewed with them for the 3rd year and despite other peoples experience I still have no exclusions for trackdays or my modifications, so it is a very individualistic thing. Another thing I would recommend is that if you can, to join the Civil Service Motoring Association (CSMA.ORG) for under £20 a year you get 10% off your quote (which is £40 for me) and 'I believe' better terms. You also get a lovely monthly mag about caravannng and driving your Rover 400 to jumble sales and tea parties etc. They also organise their own trackday (but it was cancelled this year due to lack of interest)

My renewal actually went down £2 this year [8|] but please No-ONE START MAKING CLAIMS []

That's encouraging Paul as I'm also with LV. I had a heck of a job getting Beaky insured prior to speaking to LV and wasn't looking forward to trying to find an alternative.

I like to use Beaky when ever I can and, as such, limited milage policies didn't give me sufficient cover.

No-ONE START MAKING CLAIMS
I really don't intend to, probably like most I would think.

Rob, I hope you get yours sorted ok not much in the way of advising which company, as LV were the only ones to be of any use what so ever. I did repeat everything back to them the next day when I bought the policy just to make everything crystal clear.
Seems strange to have different criteria altogether from one person to the next.

I've had some luck with Direct Choice, an intermediary who came up with three choices, one of which (from Kinetic) that was by far the cheapest from all insurance companies I recieved quotes from. I've no idea of their service once a claim is made, but hopefully I'll never have to. It's also the only insurance company that's ever sent me an advert for a GPS camera detector together with the policy documents...

Ten days before my policy was up for renewal this year, I managed to wack another car while doing the rat run to work in the rain. Both cars damaged, mine worst than his. Dreading the renewal after claiming, and watching my four years no claims fly out the window, I nearly fell over when the renewal cost came in at £50 cheaper than the previous year (£780 down to £730). Company was AXA and the renewal was also with Axa. None of my documentation states that I have no claims protection, and they didn't mind the 18 inch alloys, or 10 000 mile limit.

Now, why am I not surprised.

My quotes range between c.£530

and £1300

!!

There is something very odd about the car insurance industry and it seems that the companies are making a lot of money, and even fragmenting the market with different companies owned or managed wihin one group.

So much for regulation. And please do not get me onto the topic of pension companies which get paid by me for not 'beating' the market and losing money on my investment for my future - otherwise I will rant and rave again.

jeez, I remember when i first got my car and rang up. my first quote was over £3k! needless to say I carried on ringing around........

bloody insurance companies are more than happy to take your money, but as soon as you get a scratch, they write it off!. money grabbing &^%&*"!!!!!

Mike

And then watch for the knock-for-knock scam which means that both insurance companies can dock the no claims bonus of both drivers. This is regardless of their legal duty to look after the interests of their insured rather than their pockets!!

Don't get me started on that issue; when I undertook civil litigation many years ago I had a fine time chasing and reminding the legal departments of the major insurance companies that they had duties to their insured - especially after they would try to wriggle out of responsibility for paying on vaild claims based upon exceptionally minor errors in insurance proposal/renewal forms. They were quick enough to take the money; slow enough to pay out or settle matters. I do not recall ever losing that argument, especially when I asked for details of all minor errors which had been overlooked by the company in the past.

Now, to get on with some work and my life....

? not got one on my 944. though that is on a classic policy with them.

Todays play

Manning 'Hello'

Me 'Hello, can you give me a quote to insure my car with you?'

Manning 'Yes! what car do you have, sir?'

Me (in my best speaking voice) 'A Porsche 944 S2'

Manning 'Could I just point out that we require the vehicle to be fitted with a tracking device!'

Me 'Ah! hum.. ok, thankyou. Goodbye!'

The end.

Peart £979.00
1st quote £1,200.24pence
Carol Nash £1,500.00
Direct Line £1,500.00
Tesco £1,500.00
Lancaster Gate £842.60

Lancaster would/could not offer protection.
Footeman James only do classic which is no good to me. The 'geezer' which I use literally made me giggle. When clarifying the last three letters of my reg.
Quote 'So, thats er.. that'll be er.. Henry Willy mmm...Eddy?
'Yes, that's (biting my fist) correct!' I replied (maybe you recognised my voice there from the previos play?)

The girl (a lady geezer) from Tescos got all excited when the model popped up on her screen. 'Ooh! it's a Porsche innit!' bless!
When I replied to the £ value question her reply was 'What, is that what you can get em for?'
After the quote was given, I made the remark of 'I really don't understand how insurance quotes work!' she replied 'neither do I'

I used the internet to get quotes for mine and it started pretty badly.
Tesco quoted me around £5500! Asda £3600, Confused £2900 and then AA £2700. It was going down, but not quick enough for me. I then went to Screentrader and got the insurance for.......£1300. So had I been stupid or deprived of sleep I could have been paying 3 times more. Some thieves at least show a knife!
