any current recommendations for standard road insurance for a 993? I was very happy with Liverpool Victoria for many years but they won't insure 993s any more and I switched to ClassicLine who seem fine but just received a renewal quotation of £875 which with full no claims and no accidents or convictions seems quite pricey (though it does include breakdown and european cover). Limited mileage of 5000 miles is fine. thanks

I'm with Manning Uk (in Porsche Post) and have been with them for the 20 years I have had my 993 Targa now.
Agreed Value (70K this year), 3k miles a year (Can change up if needed) Choose your repair Company £486
Been great with Windscreen Cover too.
Had mine done at OPC with OEM Screen. I paid it then send invoice to them and paid back in a few days minus the Excess

My experience is that:
- if value over £75k most general car policies won't cover you so need to go specialist.
- nearly all insurers require 993 be garaged, especially in metropolitan areas
- classic policies should cover 5,000 miles / year and available if you have another vehicle (993 needs to be 2nd / 3rd car)
- being a member of 'Porsche Club Great Britain' can halve premium with classic policy (be very specific with club name)
- adding your spouse / partner (even if they don't drive the car) can save further 10-20%

I'm currently with Footman James classic policy for 993 C4S, Garaged in London and c.£450

Hope this helps, Marc

thanks very helpful
footman james quoted me £503 with an agreed value of £100,000, 30 days european cover and RAC coverage
I'm happy with that

Hi Nick,
do you know if that includes track day?
my current Admiral multi car doesn’t and it cost me more than the policy for a single day cover last year so want to get one that includes one track day event this year.

Hi Geoff,

FYI I’ve been with ClassicLine for a number of years and in addition to UK and European breakdown cover and an agreed value, both Club and approved track days are included in their specialist policy for Porsche Club members. I think that Locktons offer something similar?

Hello Guys, A word of warning about 993 insurance.
My 993 C2 Tip was insured for an agreed value of £50k with Lancaster who have insured the car and one other we own for years. Last week I p/x the 993 Tip for a manual car with a value of £68k. Lancaster would not swap the insurance over, offer a cover note or temporary insurance and considered it okay to abandon me at the dealers. Fortunately the dealer - Tom at 911 Virgin had a contact who took on the cover over the phone for £515 (OTT for my risk but the only option at 4 pm on a Friday 110 miles from home)
