Indicator stalk wont self cancel

Has anyone had a 944 indicator stalk which does not self cancel? Mine wont after a left turn and im wondering if it is something which could be fixed by myself or if it will just be better to replace it.

With the audible 'clicking' being so quiet on a 944 its too easy to continue long after a bend unaware that the indicator is flashing [&:]
 
This is a bit of a bodge, but it does work. Just wrap a turn or two of insulating tape around the tabs on the back of the steering wheel that cancel the turn signal. Make sure you stick it down well.

This will work if your problem is wear on the point of the cancelling'bit' on the switch.

Another way is to build up the point by adding a small amount of epoxy, but this way is less messy.

Worked for me and is still OK after about 6000 miles.

Ahhh right. I haven't inspected the indicator unit but didnt think it would be that simple! I will have a look later.

Mine have gone like this on my last two 944's. I just bought a good second hand unit off Elliot for £20, looked like too fiddly to repair mine well.
