Indicator and ignition switch electrical issue.

Hi I have an issue with my 84 model, that I need some help on.

In essence the indicators don’t blink, whereas the hazards do and the ignition turns on but won’t turn off.

I have replaced both the ignition switch and the indicator relay however the issue remains.

Additionally the 9 fuse linked with the indicator keeps blowing.

Unfortunately I am not an electrician so not handy on tracing the issue further, nor reading a wiring diagram.

I have checked the cables for fraying but don’t see anything obvious.

I suspect that they are linked but can’t be sure.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I'd start by removing the steering wheel & the indicator\wiper unit (the steering column surrounds can be taken off without removing the dial surround but its quite fiddly) carefully checking the couple of wiring looms that connect there and check the ignition loom. As the two are quite close it would make some sense that this is where your problem might be.

My 1982 924 (is your 944 a square dash?) has had issues in the past in with the headlights no quite behaving and it was due to the connectors on the indicator\wiper unit not seating 100%.

Thanks for your reply.

Everything is off as I have replaced the dash with a refurbished one with no cracks!

It all worked before I removed the dash, so it’s obviously som I have done on the reinstallation but I am baffled as to what it is, especially the ignition as there’s little I could have done to bugger that!
