Indentifying genuine Porsce cup alloys

I've found a set of 4 wheels with good tyres on them, now i need to know if these are the real thing?

What definative markings are there on either on the inside or outside of genuine Porsce cup alloys that i can get the seller to confirm for me over the phone before i buy them and get them shipped to me?

Which size ie 16" or 17" I (believe!) that I own a proper full set of each. Tell me which and I will happily get the part no's off the rear of the casting. The offsets for 968's seem to be relatively unique so if they match then odds are you have originals but as you are aware that is not definitive.

Genuine ones have the rim width and offset in raised numbers each side of the valve stem.

Ah, so that's wht those marks are i see whenever i clean the wheels. I'll put my glasses on and see what they say.

Cheers Mark [:)]

Paul, they're 17" front 7.5J offset 65mm and rear 9J offset 55mm

Are deffinatly sure about that? Your worring me about my rims as only one has raised numbers on it. This one rim is new others are old.

I just checked my wheels and as Mark suggested they all have the wheel size and offset in mm as raised markings on either side of the valve on the rim.

Sorry...[&o]

If it helps, I've seen cars that have non-genuine wheels win concours .
I'm not sure whether to be annoyed or amused by that!

(If I was another entrant I would be livid![])

Also look for the logo "JWI" which appears on lots of replica wheels. I was once told it stands for "Japan Wheel Industry" but I wouldn't vouch for it.

Just had a look at my 17" Cup 1 wheels.

Offsets as you describe above, lots of markings inside including a 'Made In Italy' stamp.

The part Nos on the back are:

Front: 965 362 124 05 (the 4 digit may not be correct as it was not easy to read)
Rear: 965 362 129 00

Hope that helps

Thanks Paul that's decent of you to do that [;)] I've now had the part numbers for the cup 1 wheels confirmed by someone else and the only difference is in the rear wheel and that reads 128 where yours is 129 i imagine the dirt inside the wheels must make it difficult to see.

regards

Eyesight definitely in decline -- it's an age thing !!!

That is why I need to get the most out of the 968 before other faculties fail or bits drop off!

Have a good day

While we are collating part numbers, I have cup 2s on my 944 the same sizes

9J x 17 ET55

part number 993.362.128.00

and 7.5J X 17 ET65

part number 993.362.124.05

Out of interest they also have what appear to be dates on them, mine range from 10/93 to 09/95 bought from Jasmine by previous owner.
