Hello Playmates.

In the mid 1950's a genuinely serious attempt was made to establish an annual sports car race right here in England which was intended to take place on public roads and be somewhat similar in format to the world famous Le Mans 24 hour race.

Unfortunately the terrible crash at Le Mans in 1955 quickly brought an end to the matter and so it was quietly consigned to history and almost forgotten. However the proposed circuit from that time still lies in the Peak District and although it is a little known route today it is still possible to drive along it. (There is a post about it somewhere here on the PCGB Forum and also a good article in issue 7 of Road Rat magazine and another one in the May 2012 issue of Motorsport magazine).

So Playmates with all of this in mind as part of our Peak Streak trip this month we are going to follow our very own version of the Circuit de la Sarthe .....and imagine just what might have been!

Meet up as follows:-

Date: Tuesday 15th July.
Time: 09:30 hrs.
Location: Shell filling station Maple Road Tankersley Barnsley S75 3DL (off J36 M1 at the junction of the A61 / A616.
Max No of cars : 5
Total run time : around 6 hours.

The plan is to drive for a short while, have a coffee and a bite to eat, drive to the circuit and do as many laps as we feel we need to then continue with the Peak Streak route, eat somewhere afterwards in the afternoon and then make our way home.

No printed routes or google maps etc just bring a radio if you have one.

Best regards.

Zeusy.
