I have just been on the telephone to my local O.P.C. for a new water-pump for my 924 turbo. I use the O.P.C. because the last one I bought from them for my other 924 was the best price available at the time, £28+vat exchange. I was informed today the pump has now been discontinued, which means we will have to go to the independents for a spare now, which is a shame, because of the price and the quality of the Porsche pump. I have nothing against pattern pumps per se, its just that the last indie pump I bought had a pressed steel impeller, with no backplate, whereas the original pump has a cast impeller with integral plate, which I would have thought created a better flow because it has fewer back-flow losses. That said I have never had cooling problems with a fully functioning system, using either pump. I just thought you would all like to know, especially those of you who prefer to use genuine parts on your car.
