Idling problems

my s2 appears to be idling unusually. at stand still its up and down only marginally if you observe the rev counter, but by sound its def noticeable - its not consistent. furthermore when driving say in 4th @ constant 2000 rpm i can feel the idling as if it demands more gas.

also when coming to a standstill the revs will drop not so much that the engine cuts out but almost near it. it did stall on me the other day after start up (warm engine).
it had an idle control valve fitted in dec 09, some 10k miles ago by the previous owner.

could it be the same again, or something else?

cheers

I had a similar idling issue with mine recently. In my case it was a split in a vacuum hose underneath the intake manifold.

Dodgy dme temp sensor can cause similar issues - nice cheap & easy fix if it is. Search the forum for more details.......

Hope you fix it !

Alan

I had the same idle issue when stopping with my S2.

I never got to the bottom of it but some of the replies in my thread may help you?

You can check the idle valve is working or at least cycling by turning on the ignition but not starting the car. If you grab hold of the idle valve body you can feel it vibrating. No chance of feeling this if the engine is running........
