How Many Left?

I learnt about the above website on the latest Top Gear and it makes interesting reading for the Porsche enthusiast. With regard to the 944 Turbo S, as quoted in the registration document, the DVLA have 33 models registered or SORN'd this year. In1995 there were 72 registered. Considering that only 70 RHD models were imported to the UK in 1988, then the extra ones must be left hooker imports.

Figures for other 944 variants include 47 944 Turbo Cabriolets, 275 for the 944 Turbo (this includes the post 1988 250 bhp models which I know some owners claim them to be the Turbo S, 729 for the 944 S2 with 347 for the 944 S2 Cabrio, 253 for the 944 S, 209 for the 944 Auto and 1658 for the 944.

Also of interest is that there are 44 registered Carrera GTs (perhaps you like me know of left hookers).
Has someone out there got a 1988 Turbo SE and is it registered as such? The DVLA don't seem to recognise it as such in their data bank.

My car is a 1988 Turbo S, is registered as such and I have a Porsche GB Certificate of Authenticity for a Turbo S in Zrematt Silver with Black leather/leatherette interior (not a Silver Rose). However in the original Warranty documentation for the car it is described as a Turbo SE. Confusion? However I now know how rare it is getting.

I think Top Gear learned about it from us:

... or more plausibly from the concurrent Pistonheads threads.

As you say, there may be imports, there may also be errors and cases where divisions into fine branches of a sub-type are not practically possible. What it says on a car's V5 is not necessarily what it was badged as, what the factory brochure described it as, or what it is known as on the street.

I also have an '88 Turbo S that's not a silver rose = silver paint, with lower black shading and bright red can-can leather !

So there are a number or non- silve rose Turbo S' around !

I have a black one ! non sunroof 88 MY, MO30 Chassis and 10 speaker pack, split rear seats, but my lightweight windscreen has gone (used to have it)!! on the lightweight windscreen there is an etched message can't remember what it said.
Loads of 89 Turbo SE cars are described as an "S"...............................No !
My V5 states Turbo S as i suspect most "S" cars do, i am not saying that they are any better just a little different / special as being the original 250 with MO30 chassis, drove and owned later turbo models but i cannot tell the difference tbh.

I love the silver rose colour (Silber Rosse) but cannot get away with (Burgundy Studio) interior, later on in 1988, Porsche decided that you could order the same spec car but in any colour combi hence the variations, in the end they ended up selling 1600 odd worldwide.
My perfect car would be Silverose body colour with full black leather.
The yankees in their usual stylee bugge**d things up and wanted sunroofs so the true number of S spec cars still is not clear.

I had a Rose Silver M758 car a loooong time ago. I liked the burgundy trim, although I was in a minority even then. My first series two / oval car was Alpine White with burgundy pinstripe, so I was already used to it. Also, with sports seats (mine had vinyl bolsters, perhaps a special order, but other cars Ive seen had full fabric fascias) and the rear seats down, you couldnt see that much of it when you were in the car...
