How many early 911s are on the Early 911 register ?

On page 132 of December's 911 & Porsche World there's a '73 2.4S for sale, which is advertised as "one of only 25 RHD registered with Porsche Club GB".

I don't remember ever seeing figures for the number of cars on the Early 911 register.

Phil,
I don't know what technology the register uses but do you have a list of the numbers of each model and year you can easily share ?

Cheers

Just back from Holidays . . .

I'm able to split the cars down into various models . . . when I get a moment I'll do it. Perhaps I'll put it in the mag as I'm sure others would be interested.

Talking about the mag . . . does anyone have anything (article wise) they want to get into Jan's edition?

Cheers

Here's a starter for 10, a little rough and ready (kindly supplied by Nic) . . 1188 in total. This must include cars owned by one time members (i.e. not all can be active members). Doesn't split into RH / LHD.

Phil - there seem to be some 'surprises' & 'anomalies' in that list:

I am surprised to see a figure of 24 1965 911's - is that correct ?

You have entries for '65/'66/'67/'68 & '69 with 2.2 litre engines - this wasn't available until the 1970 MY - can't all be later engine transplants surely !

You also have a very rare car listed - a 1965 S !

There are several other anomalies too (smaller engines in later models, etc) - I know the information you receive relies on owners filling the Register forms in correctly (& I know I haven't updated my entry yet!) but I just thought I'd point this out.

Don't want to appear 'picky' though - you're doing an excellent (& thankless) job.

By the way - what's the deadline for the January Porsche Post ?

What format do the articles need to be in ?

I have an interesting car arriving next week that might be worth writing a piece about.

Yea, when I looked at it I could see there were errors.

The club is currently working on an improved database which they hope to launch (with limited functionality) early next year. This will give me the chance to sort through all the problem cases. Some of the engine size/model year anomalies will be the result of an engine transplant as you say, but I agree it does look a little on the high side.

As for the original "one of only 25 RHD registered with Porsche Club GB" . . I looked at the advert last night and remembered the guy asking me the question. My answer was based on active Register data and was correct at the time (and could still be).

Once I've tidied up all the data, input all the responses I've had to my census (remember if you didn't get a form back in the summer, you're not on the register), I'll publish the results but I can't promise when this will be done.

Articles . . . . send me the words and pic's (Jpegs) to early_911@hotmail.com and I'll sort the format out. The deadline for January is the end of Nov, so not a lot of time. Let me know if you can do something. I'd really appreciate it. The editor is really keen on tech articles BTW.

Cheers

Phil,

dont wait till next year - you can give Sarah or me any updates to be done

This needs an expert eye to spot these anomolies.

Phil,

Thanks for the figures. I'm not sure what I was expecting but I don't think it was so many.

It'll be interesting to see what your census produces.

Cheers

Nic . . .

It's a case of finding the time . . . but if you could send me the data for the 1188 I could make a start on sorting it out (don't know would format this would be, and would probably need sending on a CD and recorded delivery, remembering that e-mails aren't secure).

Inputting the data from the census is a pain in the bottom if I'm honest . . . I'm putting it on an excel spreadsheet (thus enabling me to sort the columns).

Cheers

I'm interested to see I'm the only one on the register with a 2.4 69 T!!
And yes, my engine was transplanted from a 72 at some time in its life.

Obviously the database will contain all of the information supplied by members over the years and that list will be more comprehensive than the one shown above. But how will the information be displayed in terms of modifications. It was quickly spotted that there were some anomalies due to owner changes. Should the data be displayed by model of car without the engine size? What happens with replicas that are no longer a T but an RS (lookalike)?

By the way, any news on getting register windowstickers printed? I sent my cheque months ago but haven't heard anything.

I'm hoping to be able to sort the data various ways . . . model, engine size included.

Sent your address to early_911@hotmail.com and I'll get a sticker out to you . . . sorry.

Phil

Suggest you look up Trading Post for Sep 96 which contains some figures, including the one that there were only 46 RHD 2.4S Targas -- the writer (presumably Mark Waring)--where are you Mark? --most be referring to UK imports, although mine was a private import, & not made through Reading.

From MIB 959 -- I AM a member , with lots of cuttings about the Early 911, including one from 'Motor' of 29.01.72 about the 2.4S. Price £ 5401 inc. tax ( I paid more than that for mine in 1981 with 55K miles on the clock ). Top speed quoted as 145 mph, 0-60 6.2 sec. (Coupe, not Targa ).
How can I get my cuttings into some sort of Archive , where they can be accessed by Early 911 members?

The club does have an archivist . . . (Peter Cook if I remember correctly??) . . . but placing your material with the club (and at club office) won't make them easily accessible.

If the register gets it's website up and running (which is one of my aims for 1995) . . . I think this could be the place for it . . . scanned images (copyright permitting).

Regarding you 'non-member' status on the forum:

If it says "Non Member" under your name, you are not seeing all of the forum. To fix this you need to confirm your Name, Membership Number and Forum Name to Club HQ (email cluboffice@porscheclubgb.com).

Phil,

you have a small 911 section on the Club website already.

If you provide some pdf files we can try to extend your section, as a first step, before we do the major website rebuild

Yes the register section of the main site . . . . I updated it not so long ago (so do know about it . . . although it probably needs updating again . . . and if anyone comments . . yes I know the picture of the front page is a 912, but it was so nice I had to use it).

I might take you up on the offer of more space to display pdf's . . . but how about this . . . . the forum is used more (I would imagine) . . . couldn't I scan and have a separate thread in the 'FAQ's sub forum' containing all the articles.

Is space going to be a problem?
Copyright is also a bit of a concern . . . say there's a fantastic article from an early publication of Porsche 911 world . . . they're not going to want us to copy and display if (semi) publicly . . . or would they be bothered?

Phil,

if we can upload the pages to the forum, then we could make "sticky", but you would have to resolve the copyright question.

Space isnt so much a problem yet
