Hours estimate to renew RMS seal on 996 C2 tiptronic

I believe the engine and transmission have to come out of the car to allow access to replace the RMS . The RMS was done by an OPC about 8 years ago when I had a the extended warranty, however now have no warranty so will have to raid the beer/ holiday fund ! Anybody have this work done and can advise on hours billed ?

As previously said, you would not normally replace the RMS unless it was a good drip (On a tip car).

I would expect to see 4.5 hrs engine out and 4.5hrs in.

Removing the gearbox once out is a bit of task too, so allow a couple hours for this.

Be sure to replace the AOS when it's out and oil presssure sender. If you have a cracked oil filler tube do this too.

You also have other costs of coolant, PAS fluid, AC vac/ regas - so it adds up.

Did you mention IMS bearing change too? It doesn't have to be a costly ceramic bearing, there are very cost effective alternatives.

Thanks for the info on hours to replace the RMS. It soon adds up ! Thinking of selling my 996 after 12 years of fun and relatively low running costs. Just pondering on best option sell as is or bite the bulitt and fix the leak. Any thoughts

Don't bother. You won't get your money back and any 'decent' inspection the buyer pays for will tell him it's just an RMS leak, very common, nothing to worry about.
 
if your car is not dripping literally on a daily basis(leaving a 3cm coin mark) then its really not worth doing. If you get the occasional dropping of oil after an enthuasiastic drive then again its not necessary. If its just damp no need either etc etc.

If you do it make sure you do the IMS as it will just literally be the cost of the bearing kit.
 
Mine has been dripping for 8 years JZ mac have just advised to monitor until clutch needs doing.

If your are going to sell i would just leave maybe get cleaned up.

What at are you ybinking of buying?
