hot and cold- heater problems

Help!! I've a heating problem I cannot rectify. I've a 97 993 turbo4 and I can only get heat from the passenger side. Even feeling along the dash with the de-mister on, the air,passenger-side of centre blows hot, but every vent and slot drivers side of centre blows cold. This is causing me no end of condensation nightmares and is steadily turning the cars interior into a mould gallery. Any suggestions other than "culture your own mushrooms" would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Neil,

Check all the relevant fuses and relays first.
Your heater matrix with blowers and filter are in the bonnet above the fuel tank and below the windscreen check they are running and getting warm.
There is also the rear blower situated in the engine compartment, the electrical supply to which can easily become disconected, check it's plugged in as without it you wont get much puff![&:]

Cheers Mike.

Servo motor, i had this problem on my 964, i dont think the 993 system is any different, they are around £50 ea from and OPC, relatively easy to DIY if you have smallish hands.
Rennlist http://forums.rennlist.com/ search for heater servo and hvac system will bring up loads of hits 964 or 993

This will be a great help to you in the first instance.........
http://www.nethereal.co.uk/964/heater_servos/

All thats happened is the servo is stuck in one position hot or cold, you can if time is a problem move the servo arm to the opoisite direction or into the middle position as an instant cure

Nice one Elliot. The Nethereal link was really usefull. several pints owed your way if we ever cross paths at future events.[:)]

Unfortunately even armed with tonnes of new knowledge courtesy of Mr Baldwins 964 Haynes manual beating instructions the fault still persists. The 964 diagrams show 5 servos, nos. 2and 4 being the critical servos for heat distribution. Bad news is my 993 only has 3 servos (nos 1,3 and 5) all exactly as shown on 964 photos but no 2and 5 to be found. Incidentally no3 was knackered so I managed to make some improvements even though I still havn't remedied the original fault I can now select fresh or re-circulated air!! (pity its freezing cold still on my side though eh!!)[:(]
Still needing suggestions if anyone has experienced similar problems on a 993..

Check this 993 rennlist posting Neil.

#1-3 are under the flimsy black plastic cover in the luggage compartment, at the base of windshield. Pull the cover off, and watch to see if any of the servos are responding when you move the CCU sliders, or press the recirculation button (fresh air intake). I suspect they aren't.

#4 & 5 are in your footwells. Again, change the temperature control knob setting, and see if they move. I suspect they won't.
Rennlist will have the answer, its a massive group on there
I suggest if you havent joined yet, DO SO [;)]

Star man, thanks for all your help. You'll be glad to know I logged into
RENLIST and got some more info. The two missing servos not under the
windscreen with the other 3 (as in the 964's) were acually located in the
footwells (drivers side one was behind the panel where you find your bonnet
release). I stripped the servo and found the circuit board corroded and the
motor bright orange with corrosion/ rust. Both got a 15 minute bath in
Fospro and with some manipulation and a bit of brute force the motor
loosened and was fully functional within an hour. The circuit board was dead
but some clever soldering to provide bridges over the corroded parts and 1
or 2 extra links later and we managed to rejuvenate a totally lost cause or
at least buy time until I can source replacement servos. All is working well
now and I've been driving today with toasted feet and the first clear
windscreen since I acquired the car. Thanks again for your help
