Welcome Jeremy,

Great to hear a new voice on the forum.

I have to admit to being a little jealous of you being in America. It appears that there are many more tuning specialists and race orientated 944's in the States than there are over here. Most of the available tuning kits in the UK have their roots in America even if they aren't direct imports.

We do get to do more than 55 mph though [;)]

I do go on Renlist myself, on occaision, but find the transfer of information so frantic that I tend to loose threads faster than I can post on them. I think you might find things a little more "relaxed" here.

I hope you enjoy being a part of this forum and am looking forward to views from across the Pond.

'Hi' and welcome.

Like John I use Rennlist, but i tend to search and learn rather than post so much there.

Nice pics.

Slim, if you read this, those are the 17" wheels I like best on 994's.

Thanks for the welcom, John and Fen!

We do have a number of aftermarket parts suppliers and tuners here in the states, but we have lost a few notable ones lately (went out of business). The economy is tough at the moment. During tough times people tend to spend less on luxury items like larger turbos, etc.

55MPH is almost non-existant here anymore. Most public highways are 65mph here in my state. Some states are even 75MPH (in the western areas)!

I am working on turning my car into something I think that the factory should have made, a 944 "club sport", along the lines of the 968CS. It's basically going thru a diet and suspension tweeking (with adjustable coil-overs all round, 968 M030 anti-roll bars, and 928S4 brakes. I *finally* sourced a rear euro bumper, and am working on painting that now. You guys are lucky that you do not have the boat-anchor bumpers that we have here. Then I will install a 951/S2 nose.

Take care,

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy, I've seen you posting on Rennlist before and I'm sure I've seen your profile. I recognise the painted Fuchs and dark coloured Cups [8D] very nice. We have a guy over here (not on this forum) doing the same as you with his 2.5 N/A, he already has a lexan rear hatch, 968 Turbo adjustable wing, semi stripped interior, and plans to fit lighter seats.

Tell me, how does your car drive on the street with 400lb front springs and 300lb rear coilovers?

Jeremy,
I've been looking at you link and i like your all red rear light clusters, where can i get a pair of those, my S2 is Red (Guards Pink) and i've almost gone too the idea of spray tinting them but proper ones would look better.

Expect to see gunmetal Cup 1's on a Glacier Turbo near you soon. They are cooooooooool.

Hey Paul,

Believe it or not, it isn't overly harsh. I had 250lb units and 28mm torsion bars before the last upgrade, and after switching to the coilovers front and rear and the stock torsion bars (to retain rear stability and not to overtax the shock mounts), there wasn't much change from the previous ride quality. Now, maybe what helps is the fact that it is not my daily driver, and the roads are fairly smooth here. I do notice a little more tramlining than before, but that may be a result of my fairly agressive alignment specs.

Andriko, That is paint on my rear lenses. Sourcing the pre-made all-red ones was near impossible for me. So I painted the backup and turnsignal lenses with Testors Candy Apple Red transparent modellers paint. It has held up well for over 2 years now.

I have a question for you mates. I need to source the black trim piece that goes on the euro rear bumper. I have the bumper and shocks, but the trim piece I have has been damaged and painted and generally looks awful. I will be painting and fitting the bumper soon, and would really like to have it look proper. Any leads on how to get one? The suppliers over here are clueless. Or, what do you think about filling over the holes and going without the trim piece?

Thanks!

Jeremy

The timing is not very good, but I intend to remove my rear bumper from my Turbo and replace it with a fibreglass shell which will have no rubber.

I would suggest one of the better know UK breakers - they all take Visa and they should be OK to ship. My first stop is Simon Butterworth at Porschapart and I have also used Douglas Valley Breakers quite a few years ago - I have heard less good things about them since though.

There are others, but I haven't used them (and more importantly can't think of their names). Maybe someone else can offer suggestions?

I used to know another owner who had a Baltic Blue car where the black rubber strip had been painted body colour. It did look very nice and standard too. Is yours repairable enough to be painted over properly with flexible paint?

Here's a pic

TBH I always though that look bad - like it's a painted rubber strip (which it is). Either remove it or leave it black IMO.

Paul,

The trim that I received with the bumper is damaged severely. I thought about repairing it and painting it satin black, but it really is beyond repair (plus it has 25mm of red paint on it almost, that is cracked and in bad shape, the former owner must have had the same idea, but with poor execution). What do you think about filling in the holes and going without? It certainly would save some $$ (and time!), and maybe help the car look a little updated while still saving some weight. Here, it would look like the attached pic:

What do you think?

Jeremy

Yes I think that looks pretty good, if you could get it to look like that. I agree much better than a painted strip, and probably better than buying a new black strip as I think they are £100 ( $180 ) if I am looking correctly at the Forest Fine website that John posted

Looks good without. A vast improvement on the previous bumper with or without strip! No back wiper though, is this a weight saving device or does it not rain there. In your other pics I saw for the first time a 944 with the sunroof out, I'll wait till it gets a bit warmer here. But you do have a third brake light, thats got to add a couple of pounds....

Taking the "Turbo" badge off could save a couple of ounces as well. [;)]

Better to be a "wolf in sheeps clothing" than an "empty vessle" [8|]

Oh, ya know that's not my car. That car belongs to a fellow by the name of Sam Grant. We are having a rather large 944 gathering here in July and I hope to see it in person then.

My car actually has no badge on it whatso-ever at the moment. I removed the "944" last year to repaint it and then decided not to put it back on.

I have been toying with the idea of making a "944CS" badge, although am still undecided about that. There is a gentleman here in the states, that heavily modified a 912 into something that the factory my have made had they developed a "912R" alongside the famous "911R" of the late 60's. He made a 912R badge and I thought it was quite tastefull.

But heavens no, I would never want to put a "turbo" badge on my car. That is just asking for an arse-kicking.......[;)]
