Help please. Bilstein B6 inserts with 968 CS Springs

Hello folks,

Is anybody on here running Bilstein B6 inserts with 968 CS Springs? I'm having a nightmare getting this set up to work, from a number of fronts. First of all the conversion of the front struts. On the offside i'm getting a lot of movement of shock in the strut. What i'm not sure is if this is the strut in the shock or the piston in the shock. Have a look at this... https://youtu.be/rEPe0ZAl1X8 This is while the car is on a ramp, so at full extension. But when on the ground shaking the wheel hard will replicate the click. There is also some play on the nearside, but is some play normal?

Second is the springs, when the struts are built up the springs are not under enough tension. So they twang on sharp bumps and generally clatter about. I know the springs are physically shorter, but i'm sure folk have used them on standard 944 s2 shocks without issue. So why am I having issues on these converted struts?

This is driving me mad now and I'd really like to get it sorted, so any help / advise would be appreciated.

Thanks, Andrew.

That car is dangerous like that. By the looks of thing and your description, the struts have not been cut to the correct length for the inserts. You need to remove the struts, strip them down and refit the inserts properly.

OMG that's horrific !

The thick tube which looks like a piston rod is the outer cartridge as the Damper is upside down
to conventional dampers and hence it's piston rod is inside the lower B6 Insert casing....
It also looks like the insert is moving side to side as well as up and down!

The Insert has a Nylon top spacer collar which locates and holds the Insert when the collar cap screws and holds it down
I wonder if this was missed and / or the length is not correct hence why the insert seems to be moving in the OE strut?

It almost looks like the lower 2 bolts are loose or the top mount? as the top of the insert and the strut seem to move as one
at the end of the clip?

Who cut and welded the struts? and fitted the dampers etc.. ?
The bottom Damper is a Bilstein B6, you can see the Nylon collar near the top of the yellow insert tube

I have 968 CS springs on mine. No such issues. I have them on standard 968 cs struts. I'm sure the struts are exactly the same dimensions as my standard S2 struts I took off. Have you removed of changed the position of the spring seat.
