HELP please - alarm keeps going

HELP please.
I have just come back from holiday and needed to recharge the battery on my 1992 944 S2 which I have had for 6 years.

BUT I didn't disconnect the battery from the car when putting the charger on. I subsequently did disconnect the battery from the car.
When the battery was charged I reconnected the battery and within a few seconds the alarm started to sound.
I have been unable to start the car and whenever I try to start it the alarm goes off again.

HOW DO I STOP or RESET the ALARM?

The alarm is a factory fitted accessory from new.
