help needed on idle issue

My car is idling badly. It runs well at speend apart from a few backfires( a new development). If the car is left to idle it will begin to run odly and conk out. If I drop the manual lever all the way too it will conk. When changing gear or letting it idle momentarily while driving it also causes it to conk.
The mixture is rich I believe too, can this cause idle problems/
I cannot find the idle adjustment on this engine( I have a Haynes and have checked out articles on the subject but am not sure where my idle is)
She is a 76 930, 3litre as you know
Any help would be appreciated
I have had a litanny of issues to deal with since I got the car back from a supposed experienced enthusiast. This is one of only a couple left to deal with
thanks
frank

Hi Frank-refer my query from last week-if your have the same metering unit as me you turn the screw to the left to make mix leaner and should also sort idle problem-call me if you need more detail-it's a fiddly job and better done when hooked up to gas analyser.

If you look at the left-hand side of the throttle body under the intercooler you will see a large (ish) slotted screw/bolt, turn it anticlockwise to increase tickover

thanks both of you
That 3mm allen screw is a philips head on mine. There isn't a philips head beside the allen screw? as I could see a hole beside it but it is covered by a fuel line entering the K-jet. I messed with the philips anyway to no avail. It is an odd looking screw: 12-15mm long and not securing anything(very clean too)
JBL930 Mine doesn't have an intercooler but I will look for that screw anyway this evening when I get home from work
As I said she will idle for a short time as long as the hand throttle between the seats is not set too low and the she gets rough and conks.
all suggestions are appreciated
frank

The idle adjustment is on the throttle body. A philips screw.

The allen key is for the fuel mixture adjustment & is near the CIS metering plate & distribution block.
