Hi Folks,

I'm a new member and own a 996 Turbo.

I fitted a new battery a couple of weeks ago and took the car for a drive, all went well and I parked in the garage.

This week, I tried to start the car and got a indicator failure light with the engine management light next to.

I have icarsoft scanner and tried to read the OBD and is said that it could not read? It all looks concerning.

Any ideas what could be the problem? advice advice greatly appreciated. Thx

After two weeks, it is possible that the battery doesn't have sufficient charge (despite it being a new one). Trickle charge it or disconnect and use a "proper" charger (remember ignition key to position one before disconnecting battery to stop alarm going off).

I've charged the battery and still nothing. It only been used once Bosche S5. The battery is fine.

No reading from OBD so can't even read the fault?

engine sign "Fault indicator" on the instrument panel

Can't start the car.

Any ideas anyone?

Hi Arif,

Is the engine turning over? If so then you’d have to suspect either an ignition or fuelling issue [you should be able to smell unburnt fuel if the injectors are working but the fuel isn’t being ignited].

If the engine isn’t turning over then it could be starter motor related [a motor fault or a bad cable earthing maybe?] or a problem with the ignition circuit, a faulty ignition switch perhaps? Also, even brand new batteries can fail so it’s important to make sure that that one of the cells hasn’t failed even if the battery appears to be charging OK. A battery jump starter could be used to bypass the battery.

Proprietary DIY diagnostic testers tend to be rather basic in terms of capability and you may need to run some Porsche-specific diagnostics [PIWIS or equivalent] to find if any error codes have been flagged-up.

Simple thing but have you checked that the battery terminals are connected securely? Perhaps remove them and re-attach remembering to leave ignition key on.
