Headlight adjustment continental driving

Hi Folks,
Before taking my 1995 993 C2 to France and beyond I adjusted the headlight beams for European motoring by following the handbook instructions. It proved difficult because the small sliders (is that the correct description?) were very reluctant to move position. After careful agitation and a little force reluctant movement was achieved and the sliders took up the appropriate positions. On the trip the lights seemed to be aligned correctly. Returning home the task of returning the system to UK spec. was equally difficult. Maybe in twelve years I was the first to attempt this. The downside is that the beams did not revert correctly. Is this a common difficulty and does it mean the light units are same outcome each time I venture across the channel will be a pain. Suggestions to rectify problem will be gratefully received.e knackered? To be legal I suspect a visit to my local PC for remedial adjustment will be appropriate.

Thanks Maurice,
I read these articles before making any adjustments. Sadly the levers are incredibly resistent to sliding into appropriate positions. I will see what happens next time.
Cheers
