GT4 on Winter Tyres
- Thread starter Terry
- Start date
One set has the Michelin PSC2s for road and track (preferred to the Dunlops, on which fronts only lasted a day)
The other set has GY Eagle F1 AS2s for road use throughout the year - quieter, more compliant and more secure in the wet.
Michelin do Alpin 'winter tyres' for the GT4, but I'd be unlikely to use mine in such conditions
For a start the tyre walls are less stiff and so the steering is much more feel-full in wet weather --- and then there is the extra grip in wet and cold weather.
In hot weather the Supersports will still pull 1.25g ... it's just that the PS2's will pull into 1.40g and I've seen over 1.55g in the compression at Eau-Rouge ...
And I worry about tyre shoulder wear
Out of interest, Mr D, my newish 330d came with none run-flat MP Super Sports and my local tyre dealer said that they were the new 4s. Had a look and it just says MPSS so can't be sure. They have a very simple tread pattern unlike the Super Sports that I've seen before. Very good tyres, both grippy and offer a good ride, I'd put them on the GT4 when I need to replace the Cup 2s assuming they were Porsche approved, I'm sure they'd cope with a few trackdays as well as lots of road use.
