Greetings and S2 brakes

Evening all, after 5 months, just got around to starting work on my S2. It has been laid up over the winter and I am undertaking a front brake caliper rebuild. Any advice on removing pistons and the little screws holding the plates would be appreciated!!
Many thanks

Paul.

The plates screws are threadlocked, so youll need to heat them up. I believe that all horror stories came about as a result of people not realising this.

they almost never come undone using a hex bit, they just round off. i have always had great results using snap on extractor that will fit round the diameter of the outside of the button head and grip it tight.

have fun!!

I got mine out by welding a 10mm nut onto the screw and using a socket. The combination of good purchase and heat from the weld seems to do the trick.

A tiny blowtorch (like one used for cooking) can be just enough heat if you direct it right at the button head and have a metal plate as a shield over your piston seals

The search tool on here can be very helpful ....

It can be difficult to make work, but if you search within or before a timeframe then it's not bad.

Did not have much joy with the search but lots of help from members [:)][:)]

I dropped the calipers into my friendly garage this morning for removal of the plates and pistons and picking them up on the way home, a good investment!! Found some cap screws on screwfix to replace the rusty ones so a good weekend should see her nearly ready for MOT. Also dropped the D90's in for refurb so will post some photos when they come back!

Thanks again all!!

A little update, 30 quid to have the bolts removed and the pistons, money well spent me thinks! Big rebuild at the weekend now!
Cheers
