Getting my 996 TT off the line quickly

I have read various articles concerning standing starts for the 996 TT. These range from dialing up 4,000 rpm up to 6,000 rpm followed by a clutch dump. I would be interested to hear about other owners experiences in this regard and also what damage (if any) occured / is likely to occur, if done regularly.

P.S. I have had this car for almost 2 months and covered 1,500 miles. I came from a new M3 Cab and thought that was quick until now! [:D]

P.P.S. anyone had any 'off the lines' against a 360???

P.P.P.S. EVERYONE wants to race me. The other day a TVR Tuscan was right up my back side (so to speak) but unfortunately, I had my daughter and wife in the car. It was wet that day and the TVR refused to overtake me for over 5 miles (he then turned off). I see this as a mark of respect because surely he knew he would get his butt kicked in the wet!!!

Can't help with the standing start, I'm Tiptronic so point and shoot for me[8D].
Get used to the "Everyone wants to race me" and the everyone wants to cut me up.
I have and just put it down to [:'(]
Had a run with a TVR a while back in the dry, I had the wife with me and told her "this may be quick"
neither of us went silly and eventually he pulled over out of the way, as I passed him he gave a great big smile and a thumbs up. Smiled and waved back, had our fun and proceeded on our way.

Aren't there days at Santa Pod where people in all manner of cars can experiment with standing start acceleration runs in a SAFE environment?

I think the easiest answer would be to substitute

rpm with £££'s[&:]

To make it clear, I never go above the speed limit [;)]

Had a very interesting encounter with a new Merc SL55 recently...

John, may be you could use this forum to let us know which roads you'll be using each day and then we can keep out of your way.

Headlines in local rag.

"Bizarre suicide of local man"

Local petrolhead johntraynor apparently committed suicide on Sunday by ramming his beloved Porsche into the back of his garage.

His distraught wife johntraynorette said " I just dont understand it, he was fine earlier.... I heard him revving away, as usual, as he polished at his little beauty but then I just heard the engine screaming away at about 6000rpm and there it was....... sob, sob, Oh it was horrible... the car was only a foot long.... crushed to bits!

We had only just bought those garden chairs as well.... another week and they would have been out on the patio.....

Police sources believe he was suffering stress from other drivers repeated attempts to denigrate his pride and joy.

I seemed to have ruffled a few feathers! Clearly there are a few other owners out there who frown upon drivers who pilot their Porsche in an enthusiastic manner, or to be more specific, in the way that the manufacturer intended. In future, I shall do nothing more than wash and polish my beloved. On very special occasions I may even go as far as to take the car onto the open road. I intend to borrow Tim's pipe and slippers and cruise steadily around the streets at 30mph - even on motorways!!!

You obviously don't know some of the characters who have replied to this thread!!!!

Nah! I think we were all wincing (grinning) at the prospect of your clutch getting first prize in the Hand Grenade Impression contest....

Come and ruffle a few feathers on a track day .............u can 'dump' ur clutch into as many peices as u like and theoretically all the traffic will be going one way ,must polish the car first .[:)]

I do fancy a track day although the prospect of replacing 4 tyres is putting me off. How do your tyres tend to fair after a track day? I do appreciate that this depends on how quickly you drive... [:)]

Just think of it as the same as a few Grand Prix starts from Acacia Avenue but all four corners go at once.[:D]

Not that I track I must hasten to add. More to do with fear of stuffing my only car and complete lack of funds.[:)]

I will admit I am saving my pocket munny though.[8|]
