Gearbox Ratios Mods

Has anyone changed the ratios of their gearbox?? I know you may be thinking why muck about with the factory settings but a close ratio ' box could lead to decent acceleration gains.

Just curious as usual......[8D]

Sorry the link is so long, but it should get you to the 3.2 Tuning Guide under the Technic section. The strategy seems to be a closer 2-5 gearset limiting top speed to *only* 150mph. Alternatively an " active" gearset where you use a taller 1st and tighter spacing above that.

I recall from other discussions that you can get the equivalent of a 15% power increase. If you do a lot of track days I can certainly see the benefit in closer gears. On virtually all tracks, I barely get into 5th and use 1st only to start - effectively a three speed box! I also find the hole between 2 and 3 frustrating. If a corner is just a little too fast for second I get caught just off cam - just under 4,000rpm - and it seems to take an eternity to get back to 4,500rpm when things start working properly.

I have invested in a set of 7/8x15 wheels with 50 series tyres for track days that will give a small overall lowering in all gear ratios and I hope this will provide a little more acceleration. So far, using them on the road, I can' t say I can feel any difference though! I will have to wait till July 3 at Castle Combe to see whether it is easier to hunt down 964s, 993s etc. [:D]
