Gearbox oil change

Hi

I'm about to change my gearbox oil. From time to time selection of first gear and/or reverse is a bit of a problem when warm and after reading up on the subject this seems to be the first port of call.

I wonder if anyone has a suggestion which oil to use as I understand this can be critical.

Cheers

Darren.

I put swepco gearbox oil in mine which I bought from bert at berlyn. Seems ok and the gearchange has improved. From your symptoms i would try to bleed the clutch and maybe even change the slave cylinder and flex pipe. The seals tend to break down resulting in difficulty getting into gear ans also air in the system. I also found on mine that some of the linkages conecting to the gearbox were worn and so i replaced a few parts here as well.

Remember to undo the fill plug before attempting to drain the oil from the gearbox as there have be lots of people who drained the oil only to find they cant undo the filler and then your in serious problems!!!

best of luck

Tim

I will second Tim's suggestion of the issue being more to do with the clutch slave. Start with a simple bleed of the slave to see if it makes a difference.

p.s. 'simple' is a relative term...getting to the slave bleed nipple requires the art of a contortionist! [:D]
