fuel tank removal

Hi
I don't want to remove the tank just the metal pans that sit under the plastic petrol tank.
The pans and the strap are rusty and I want to remove them to de-rust. If I remove the strap and pans will the tank fall ?

The tank is held in place by the straps and the two bolts that run through the middle. As long as the tank is not too full you can take the straps off without the tank dropping.

No need to empty your fuel tank. Tank is held mostly by two big bolts. Straps are there to hold sheet metal covers.

Cheers Olli
I did not think that the strap took too much strain, and the photos confirmed that for me. Are the steel pans there to protect the tank?

You have done some work under there, looks very nice

again many thanks for the photos

Can the steel strap that holds the steel pans in place be removed while the tank is in place.
I am asking this because one end of the strap is bolted in place and the other end seems to be in a housing that is welded to the chassis, I can not see how that end will free its self.

Is the silver a a type of under seal ? I know its not hot in Fenland so it can't be for heat reflection
