Fuel Pump

After my wows last year with my car being stranded in France when my ECU packed up, and having changed all the sensors, DME, rotor cap,etc, etc as I've got a few Euro road trips planned this year I wonder if it would be advisable to replace the fuel pump.
My rationale being this is probably the only electrical bit I haven't changed and a known weak point on a 30 year old car.
Probably cost around £175 fitted so well worth the piece of mind.

Question: do I go OEM or Bosch 044 which seems to be a popular upgrade?

At the same time I'm changing the fuel tank to a new Dansk 85 litre one I acquired during one of Europoarts mega sales for (£200 all in) once it's under sealed and painted

What do you folks think?
 
Its a sound idea as it wont be simple getting the pump fixed while abroad. I discussed this with Charles Marsland before going to Spain last year, didn't change mine in the end, I spoke to a couple of high milers that hadn't had a problem so maybe I'm risking it? When changing parts an upgrade may be the best option, but when away anything could fail - there are many single points of failure. Keeping the car in overall good nick mechanically will always be the best policy now they are all 30 ish years old. You had a bad time of it last year so I can see why you are asking. If the 044 is a later design and a genuine upgrade go for it. Petrol has changed a lot during the life of our cars and I'm sure not for the better if you are a pump!
