Fuel Consumption Gauge?

hi all,

I'm just interested in what models/years that fuel consumption gauges were fitted, as my S2 doesn't have one but I definitely saw one in a pic of an oval dash that was for sale?

Are they accurate?

Can they be fitted to a model without one currently (How do they work etc)?

any knowledge on this is greatly appreciated, as I like "gadgets"!
 
Apparently they were only on the first oval dash Lux models.

Mine is a late 85 Lux and it has one.

Youd need to replace your entire clocks to fit one, which seems a bit excessive.

Forget about MPG and just drive flat out everywhere! :)
 
In series two cars, 1986 model year only. Series one cars have them too, but its only a simple vacuum gauge.

Wouldn't they all have been simple vacuum gauges? Some North American cars had similar things - usually sold as a kind of economy meter - eg when you're not pulling a good vacuum you are not using the engine economically. My brother had a Chrysler product - with real Corinthian leather :) for those who might have seen Richardo Montalban doing those hilarious commercials. On his machine there were tiny rear facing turn signal indicators on the top of the front fenders (to remind you to turn them off I suppose) and the drivers side one would light up solid when you were on the gas - reminding you that you were not driving economically. Whenever I drove it it was on ALL THE TIME :)
 
In my experience a fuel consumption indicator in a 'sporty' car just distracts from the reason why you bought that type of car in the first place, I.E. fun!

Didn't know some 944's have them, I'm glad that space is taken up by a boost gauge on the turbo [:D]
