Front wing been hit! By a low lowered

A low loader lorry just caught my front wing when reversing round a bend, I beep my horn, but it was to late. Colistion happened.

Wasn't aware his intentions as it looked like he was just parking up. He was stationery as I came round a left bend, with the entrance immediately on the right. I was stopped as he begain moving. Was still during the collision. I was on the right side off the road he was on the other and there was a car coming round him on my side which caused me 2 stop.

He looks like he owns the car garge / repaire center he was reversing in to, and sent me straight round 2 his local body shop, would want the car on Monday 2 start the repire, Iv not heard what there intentions or idea off the repire is yet as it was a lady working on the reception desk who took the pics and details.

Seems they want 2 repire it on the side not get insurance involed, Iv been offer a curtesy car but Iv got 2 insure it myself? Move my current insrance over aprattenly ??

Will up load a pics as soon as possabile.

The wings are genuine Porsche wings and where replaced 6 years ago so are rust free.
Rather then dent not pulled out and filled. How much off the car would require paint work after a replacment wing?

should have taken a pic at the scene of the accident i would have, and up to you but i think i would talk to my insurance company your leaving yourself open to trouble letting them have freelance on the standard of repair, with no pics i obviously cant see the vehicle or its standard but this is what i would feel if i was in your place, id not let them touch my car.....

cant get pics 2 work on here. so heres alink 4 now.

feel free 2 remove the link if inapprotate, and 4 someone else 2up load pics,

it was hit with the plasctic part off the bumper so the black may come off but i dont think the dent will push out well anoth

That looks a reasonably straightforward and simple repair if they pull out the dent, a light skim of filler and then the side of the wing and the front bumper will need paint. As long as they don't put paint on the top of the wing or where it meets the door they will not need to blend onto the bonnet or door. One proviso is to watch the panel gap between the wing and the bonnet, it's pushed in by the headlamp at the moment.

If they replace the wing they will also need to spray the bonnet, front door, bumper, badge panel and headlight covers.

Thanks, 944 driver didn't something simmler happen 2 you with a skip lorry?

As its a new wing with no rot or rust I would rather there's no filler used. Will be more expensive approach. Badge pannle and that have a few stone chips, nothing major, front bumper I was getting painted by anoth paint shop with the back bumper and lower valance from been rear ended b4 xmass.

Iv also got a small rust starting on the sills which was due 2 be repired by the other spray shop. Should I try and get all the work done at one place. Will see if the lorry driver is willing 2 take the more expensive approach.

You cannot repair a dent of any size without using filler. There is nothing wrong with using filler to finish a repair. People seem to be scared of filler but it's only bad if it is used badly.Any professional body shop will use filler but usually only a very light skim.
Don't worry about filler worry about how good a body shop it is that is doing the repair and how good they are at matching paint.

It's worse than the damage on mine, but as the other driver admitted full liability and went through the insurers it wasn't an issue for me. Had it been up to me to pay, I'd have had it repaired rather than a new wing.

Problem is, do you have a decent agreed value policy? Don't know offhand if yours is an S2, but the price for mine was new wing, paint as Paul says to half the car, then factor in a courteousy car, collection and delivery, 20% vat on everything, and it's a write-off. My insurer thought the car had a book value of about £2K tops, the claim was well over that.

Because of the agreed value, I could choose where I wanted it repaired, and the final cost was about £1600. That's no hire car, me dropping it off, no extras. That was a new wing and most of the front painted, I then paid the extra for the rest of the car to be sorted at the same time, so it was a bit of a result for me in one sense. A lot of hassle though.

So, be VERY careful about insurers getting involved unless you are both ABSOLUTELY certain it'll be a no-fault claim, and that you have at least, say, £5K guaranteed value on the car. [&o]

That has shifted the wing on it's mounts, look at the shut lines with regards to the door and headlight, i would tread carefully with an unknown repairing the car, i know it sounds negative bit if they arse it up you will be back and forwards with the car trying to get a satisfactory repair, why should you put yourself out by piddling about with insurance swaps ?

It's 88 turbo. 250, full m030 spec. Insurance wise I'm not sure if its agreed but I think I put the value at 5k

I'm not really interested in get insurance invoiled due 2 the added expensive but I do think it will need a new wing, as the wing was fine and rot free b4 so is the otherside it should be replaced.

I just got the feeling the bloke won't be 2 happy with it going else where but where just have 2 see.

A valuation was something I was intending on doing once Iv got the small rust fixed on the lower sills. B4 the next insurance renewal which is in July I think.

Same thing happened to my Skyline GTR. Had a new wing in the end. FOUR times it was painted and never to my satisfaction, it always looked a different shade []. Had the whole car done in the end, fcuking nightmare![][].

Frenchy is echoing my thoughts. Very closely.

A lot comes down to how much you trust the guy who did the damage and the bodyshop doing the work. If he is likely to be reliable, AND the bodyshop a good one, then you may be OK following his suggested route. If, alternatively, he thinks he is doing you a favour by repairing it on the quiet and the bodyshop is more used to painting lorries than cars then you are better off going the formal route. Remember, keeping it away from insurance companies is doing HIM a favour, not you.

The fact that they aren't bending over backwards to help with the courtesy car insurance is not a good sign.

Keep us updated.

So Iv been 2 both body shops, my choice the larger set up,

£250 pull the dent and paint. But filler will be used

The place the other guy sent me, £380+ vat 2 pull and body file the dent no filler used. Plus extra £200 if the bonnet needs painting.

It's a bit early in the year 2 have the sills wax oiled and repired. So I guess that should wait till the spring.

I could take the £700 for the repire and get it done at the other place saving some money 2 get wheels done or some other bits.

Both body shops know eachother and do work 4 eachother. My body shop said I should feel conferdent in the other shop

So what u think

Spoke 2 Opc £580 + vat 4 wing = 700 - 7.5 % discount

WTF is a body file???????

I think someone is pulling your plonker...........

I'll bet you they will use filler or stopper.

The metal in your wing is 0.8 mm thick ......... how much can you "file" out of that?

That's what I asked, but both places said with new wing costing £700 even the insurance would want the dent pulled and filled.

I think I will let them have a go and will try and check up on the work b4 paint. If its not right I will refuse.

Go and check before they put paint on it. They will have to use some kind of filler, but I wouldn't worry about that I would concentrate on the shut lines and the line of the wing when they have pulled the dent. I had a wing with a dent in that part and it's a lot of work to get it right again. The front of the wing at that point curves in several different directions.
I would go to a Porsche approved Body shop and ask them for a quote. Also ask them how they would fix it and I'll bet you their price won't be far off what you have been quoted.

Well, mine looked like this and got approval for a new wing...not as bad as yours?

As I've said, the repair via the insurers would have written off my car without the agreed value. Plus, if there was any hint of a loss of excess or future NCD it would have been a no-brainer to take the cash and get it repaired.

I was quoted the £1600 plus vat for the new wing, and to paint the wing, front PU, bonnet, badge panel, HL covers, door and blend in to the rear quarter. Fit new stoneguards, it all adds up. Had I been less lucky in that the guy wouldn't admit liability, I'd have happily had it pulled and filled, and the minimum of paint done. Why is there any issue with a decent repair, they are done all the time? Your wing is a new one anyway, so it's rot-free. Mine was rusting at the bottom, so I did benefit there as well, but yours will be just as sound as it's not damaged the rust-prone lower part.

I bet we'd all be surprised to see the odd bits of repairs and filler that our cars have had over the decades, that don't show up on the surface. My front PU was originally red, we found out as it was prepped, yet the car has no evidence of front-end damage, or anything in the comprehensive serveice history.....[&o]

Yes you are absolutely right and my wing had only been fitted 10 months before [:(]. My denting was a bit more extreme than yours and Mcnulters, and we tried hard to panel beat the general shape back into the wing once it was off the car but these Porsche wings are made of mighty stern metal and it resisted all the tools our small paintshop has at its disposal. Luckily the skip lorry company paid the bill for a new wing and for us to paint and fit it, along with the corner of the bumper and both front wheels. Without looking up the paperwork I seem to remember the total bill was circa £900 + vat. An alternative quote from one of our rivals was over £2000 + vat. Being black we could get away with not blending onto adjacent panels but your silver will not be so lucky [&o]
