So if I needed one from say autoglass am I likely to get one ?

I always use Autoglass for my 944T, had 4 screens now and due a 5th soon as it gets difficult to see through the chips in a low sun. Each time I contact Autoglass directly, give them my insurance details and they do the rest, all I have to do is pay the £50 access. Windscreens should not effect your no claims if using a good company.

I think they are around £700 from the "approved repairers" now. This might well be outside of the insurance limits, depending on your policy. Check first.

Yes but their retail 'price' will be comical. You can buy them from glass wholesalers for about £250+ VAT. Breakers are usually reluctant to sell you one which they place in your car - but Ive had a few offer to sell one only for me to find out that the weasels expect me to remove it myself.

If you can ge tthem out without breaking them you really need a jig to transport them. Ive moved a few new screens around - they come with polystyrene packing which supports them withon a stiff cardboard box, witht the packing mounded to both X & Y curves. Without something similar I think that the probability of cracking (vertically) a loose screen is very high.

IIRC The last one I had came with an invoice of £450 + my £50 excess. Just don't break the rear one, Autoglass told me I'd be looking at £2500+, may have a few raised eyebrows from my insurance company with that one, mind you I have never gone through them. I do everything directly with Autoglass who then bill my insurance company, I prefer it that way, no red tape...:)

I got a quote from a local windscreen agent of Rac autowindscreens and they said £240. plus £50 to fit.

Have they definitely quoted for a flush screen and not an earlier inset screen? You need to make sure that it isnt a 937 screen too, which are cheaper, but dont have an integrated aerial.

Hi Colin, that's sounds very cheap, not saying its wrong but could it be possible that they quoted you for an earlier model with no radio antenna fitted and was it tinted? More importantly was it OEM, I'm told there are cheaper variants out there.

I bought a new screen for my car in January 2010 and it was something in the order of £450. Got that one via Henry Firman from whom I bought the car, so I'm not sure where he got it. It has the antenna.

It was for a flush screen with top tint and an antena.the price without both was £180.it was 2 yrs ago but I can't see the price going up that much since then.It was also a trade price but even without trade discount it would only be 10-15% more.

I had one through autoglass but it creaked terribly so they just changed it for a new one with no hassle, just charged the usual £60 excess

Thank you for all your kind responses chaps. JMG has come to my rescue in the fact that he will get it replaced when he has my car in next month. Thank you all once again.

30 Years ago I worked for an insurance brokers and a client broke a rear screen on a 924 - £900 then!

I heard they were still listed by Porsche at about £3500.

Same glass as the Renault Fuego I believe.

Then there was that Ebay 924 screen (without wiper hole!) for 99p!

Every time I've had a screen done by Autoglass, I've been asked all the questions about tint, sun screen, etc and at the end of the call they say actually theres only one type of screen now and the earlier ones are NLA. IIRC they fitted a late one to my '82 car.

The difference is the trim that goes around it, when they fitted mine, they came out with the wrong trim the first time
