I have a '79 SC with Bilsteins fitted. Can anyone advise on the fitting of the spacer at the top of the strut (part no 911.341.615.00) installed between the top of the guard tube and the underneath of the support bracket in the wing. My car has been lowered and these spacers are missing. Should I replace these or is this acceptable to run without? Any help would be appreciated.........

Thanks for the swift response Bones and I now feel reassured. The car has driven for some time without these but I came across the statement in the workshop manual "make sure that spacer is installed....." and wondered if I was missing something. Bump steer kit is fitted and car drives well. The reason for stripping the suspension was a persistent knock coming from the nearside suspension which can be felt in the passenger footwell. New track rod ends, ball joints and Bilsteins fitted but to no avail. Everything is new and tight but knock is still there and don't know where to look next, any ideas? Best regards
I have both front Bilstein inserts removed and they appear ok (no leaks, considerable force needed to compress etc) and now intend to swap them over to see if this transfers the noise/problem. The noise can only be described as a 'knock', metal to metal and occurs at even the smallest road imperfection. I will keep you posted...........
Best regards.
Best regards.

Before you do that take everything out of the front compartment including , spare tyre and any other bits and bobs. Hopefully the lack of sound deadening will help you identify the knock. I once had a noise coming from the same area on the off side , I never got to the bottom of it , eventually it just stopped!?
