front brake pads

I made the mistake of buying sh1ite QH pads very cheaply for the front. I want to change them as the brake fade is very impressive and one or twice been close to filling my underwear !

What pads do people recommend that are worthwhile. ChasR mentioned Mintex pads are good and the EBC blacks and green stuff are as bad as I have now by the sounds of it.

Answers below please [:)]

I've jut ordered some mintex m1144s for fast road/trackday usage.

A bit of a pain finding anywhere with them in stock - the lead time from mintex is currently circa 8 weeks if not in stock :(

IIRC Textar are OEM pads on some 944s - I was told I could use them on my S2. I see in their catalog (online) that they only have one set (front 2048102 and rear 2048203) for 944s and that is specified for Teves brake system.

I've also seen on the web that some complain that the Textar pads rattle so spacers or shims are likely required. Catalog doesn't show any separately or say if the pad package includes shims. Hope that helps.

Oh! And if you look at the data sheet - it gives cross reference to Porsche part numbers [:)]

If you're not going to use it on a track, just buy OE Textar pads from Bert @ Berlyn or another of the usual suspects.

I'm on Pagid Blacks Dave. They are superb once you have bedded them in mate [8D]! Don't go for "Yellow Stuff" pad's, they are more track oriented and squeal a lot until they are very warm. I have them on "YOBO". If I wasn't going to sell him I would change them without a doubt.

I'm sure they're a fantastic pad, but if they're the ones i'm looking at for a small fortune, your pockets are deeper than mine mate !
Are they the Pagid RS 4-2-1 type ??

The OE Textars may actually be adequate enough or the fast road Pagid. I haven't got a turbo so really just need a good pad that is better than the pads I have on now. I think concrete pads might actually work better than what's on at the moment !

The Textars should be an improvement from the QH pads.

I still stand by my comments on EBC. Other people seem to get on with them, but they were truly horrific on the cars I drove.

decisions, decisions !

They feel like this at the moment ! (slight exaggeration possibly here)

OK. EBC red stuff fast road just bought at good price. Mostly only ever had OE pads on previous cars.

We'll see what they're like I guess....

Get the Yellows properly hot and they will become silent. some repeated heavy stopping is all they need.

Similar performance to standard but very dusty and short lived in my experience. They may have improved them since then though as it was a few years back.

I did read about the frequent compound changes of EBC !

It's not a daily or anything so I can judge them over time.

As always, I will suggest that people avoid any EBC products. If if theyre improved (and theres plenty of room for that), theyll still be inferior to established products.

My Mintex M1144s arrived from Motorsport World today, 24 hour delivery and a phone call to check the order before they were sent out - very good service.

Slotted in no probs with a bit of copper grease on the back; the callers could do with being powder coated but they had a full service just over a year ago so it would be for cosmetic reasons only:
