Forum rules

Having read the new Forum rules this is my Good bye.

Keep your 964s running and enjoy this wonderful version of 911s, the last one with the classic look. It combines the best of two worlds, the old fashioned look and the modern (sort of) technology.
Recently this forum had a breath of fresh air, maybe you´ll be able to keep up that momentum.

All the best

These are not new rules. They are the same rules that have been around for years. It was decided that forum users should agree to abide by the rules - a one off tick box exercise - to both remind experienced forum users of their content and make sure new users read them. Other than that, nothing has changed.

Sorry, Alan, but that is not true.

As I well know the grisly truth is that forum rules were re-written recently - I have a copy downloaded in September which only runs to 5 sections, leaving out all the draconian bits on mandatory copyright licencing and disciplinary actions. The web site Terms and Conditions were updated in 2016 to include similar conditions, but kept extremely quiet from officials and the membership. This is what caused my insistence on removing all my historic posts, technical articles, and FAQs.

Now at least users are made aware (if they bother to read the undated new rules) that they are granting a free irrevocable perpetual worldwide licence to PCGB to use their material in any way they wish - a very minor concession to transparency, but small steps etc etc.....

I felt rather lonely when I brought up this topic before (in Members section), but as people realise the impact of it, more will have a similar reaction to mine.

And I certainly don't want to shoot the messenger, it's rather a dark area for the Club.

cheers, Maurice

Hi Maurice,

Yes, apologies, you are quite right that the section 6 part of the rules has been added fairly recently (and without the foreknowledge of the Admins) However, although this is of concern for yourself, and probably others, this is not the part that is bothering Hacki. This I know as we have exchanged PMs.

Hello Maurice,

I have followed your posting and concerns regarding the rules for some time - thank you for highlighting the concerns and for getting me to read the rules !

Apart from those regarding `expression of criticism` I have had no issue accepting them

Alan,
I don't think that statement is quite correct-I now find that every time I choose to reply/add to a post,I have to sign against the Forum Rules flag which appears which is particular bind especially as it's very slow to scroll through.
it certainly spoils the spontaneity & fun of using the Forum.

Colin - it should be a one off only. I will pass on to Obergine to see if you can bear with us.

Alan,

thanks for putting things in the context of common sense and not sticking to the words literally. Well put. From that point of view in fact nothing has changed. With 10,000+ posts I have been contacted only once by a Moderator - and that was for quoting the then Lord Mayor of London. The Club considered his language not appropriate for the PCGB.
The copyright issue is a different story, not important right now for me. Not any more. There were some pictures with questionable or unknown copyright in the Porsche Pictures Past section, but as it´s history no worries about that.

I´d like to keep on contributing with 30 years experience of ownership and use of 964s and a 993, on the roads and on the tracks. But there´s not much traffic on the Forum sections actually, then again, that´s a different story.

I also have the "re-sign every time issue".

Best

This post is absolutely free of criticism of the Club, Porsche, directors, etc. - too many to list.

I emailed Obergine yesterday on you4 behalf Colin - but like a lot of suppliers - the festive season may have already started for them. Hopefully they will pick it up soon.
