First few hours to work on car and........

After collecting my car two weeks ago, I have finally had a few hours to take a look at what's wrong.....


1. I emptied fuel tank and disposed of old fuel, re filled 10.5 litres. Took off fuel pump, striped it down, cleaned it up and put it back on car. When the ignition is turned on....should you be able to hear the fuel pump kick into action???

2. No spark from plugs

3. Boot doesn't open. You can hear the motor go when the switch is depressed, but it won't open, unless you climb in boot and release it by hand.

4. Electric windows don't work.

Other than that, for a car that has stood 5 years it's pretty much ok electrically. Mirrors work, all lights work. Just a few things less to worry about anyways.

Any ideas or help with the rest would be appreciated.

No spark could be DME relay or flywheel sensors or the coil. For the windows I would first check the relay and fuse. The boot will open majesticly when fitted with some new gas struts. New seals can help to spring it up also. Glad you are enjoying the car though mate []

I really am. Love to fiddle, and thought what an opportunity to put such a majestic car back on the road.

Thanks for the info though. I have ordered a new rear window/boot, will try that first, if not then i'll try the struts. I've also just bought a DME fuel pump relay as I understand these to be quite a common problem.

Hopefully, this time next year I will own a 3.2 carrera. The first production that took over from the 3.0 SC. That's always been my ambition. Just love the Beetle/Porsche engine and the Yuppy style 80's rear Spoiler. Such a classy looking car.
