Fan running on ....

Last night the engine fan would not stop running.

So I had to remove the fan relay to avoid running down the battery.

Where is the fault likely to be ? The fan relay or temperature sensor on the radiator ?

The most likely cause is the relay, give it a good clean (contacts etc) run it up to temperature and see if it then works properly. Mine failed once and a good clean sorted it.

Thanks Peter,

It's certainly a contact of some sort, it just can't make it's mind up.

It's obviously the original dated July '93 --- but everything looks very clean already.

I'll keep you posted !!

Check that you havent got a short against the bulkhead in front of the driverside I think is where the wire comes up. Happened to a car out at the ring once... had to pull the plug after a few mins cos it just wasnt turning off...

Hasn't been your week Chris. [:D] Put your feet up and have a drink!

Well I learnt a lot !

Can you be tempted to Oulton o the 4th ?

Off topic I know - Hoping to go to Oulton but a N_z_ marshall wouldn't let me on track, last Friday, due to not having a towing eye at front. So I need time to find out if I need to get the front PU off (gulp!) and turn the inner bumper 180 degrees to line up the thread with the hole in the PU or to drill and tap the inner bumper for the towing eye. With all the fuss I can't find the PU cap I took off (now fuming!) []

What a pain ...

'Should know tomorrow if the cleaning and drying and shaking (I kid you not) of the relay has solved the problem !!

as in your first post Chris the temperature sensor on the radiator is also a common problem when this occurs
