Exhaust rattle

Looking for the source of an exhaust rattle I was expecting to find that I'd caught a heat shield on something. It's not that...looks like the tapered front section on the cat has come adrift. I've checked on the PET diagrams and it looks like it should be all one piece.

Is my cat falling apart? Any views on this would be appreciated before I reach for the gun gum and coat hanger wire...!

If the cat is on its way out, I recall Promax used to sell a de-cat kit consisting of a straight through silencer of the same length...has anybody tried one of these?

I have this rattle as well. It only comes when the car is warmed up.. after a run. A tin plate rattle sound.

Got under the car last Friday...the rattle is from a cone shaped heat shield at the forward end of the cat. Two pieces of metal + lining crimped together top/bottom...the top joint had come uncrimped.

Up on the hoist at my indy today...they commented that it's rare to see one still in place after 22+ years, they often fall off!!

The cat is the same shape under the heat shield, hence the PET shows no difference (and the heat shield is not a separate part anyway).

So we finished the job and pulled it off.
