Exhaust Pops

I've noticed that my PASM / Sport Chrono equipped Cayman, pops and bangs its exhaust on the over-run when backing off to exit motorways after prolonged high speed running in Sport mode. Is this normal? And if so, how do Porsche ensure that I'm not blowing a hole in my, very expensive, catalytic converter?
