Excellence Magazine

Morning

Feb 04 edition of the American Excellence Porsche magazine has quiet a good article on the 40 odd 964 RS Cup cars shipped to the states for their (cancelled) Cup series.

Also some low life opened their door onto my car. Luckily (if it could be called that) they only smashed the headlight bezel without touching the wing or bumper. However the ring around the headlight that holds the adjusters under the bezel is also bent beyond repair and this looks like it is integral to the headlight itself.

Could anyone confirm please?

you can dismantle the headlamp down to component parts - the lens is held into the inner metal ring by a series of sprung clips using a system pioneered by the VW Beetle in 1939. apparantly it is tricky to re-assemble however as the srpings are different sizes and must fit back in the exact same place. as you can buy lenses as a stand alone item i assume you should be able to buy the ring as well.

worth checking
Matt

Thanks Matt

I took one look at the pile of spring bits on the floor and bought a new headlight.

The spring clips certainly are a complex work of art when viewed on the new one.

Trouble is I now have 1 shiny eye and 1 dull eye. When does the expense stop!

Hi Matt

Still awaiting the trim ring back from the bodyshop so have 1 midnight blue dull headlight and 1 matt black shiny one. Not too bad from a distance!
