It was with obvious interest that I read the article in the latest EVO (Feb 2015) comparing the Macan S Petrol with the Audi RS Q3 and the Mercedes GLA45 AMG. Interestingly the Macan did not win! Shock horror!

Why? Apparently it, in terms of having fun, got nowhere! The other two were slipping and sliding round the race track, whereas the Macan was composed, lighter, rock solid and sharper than it has any right to be. No excitement!

What on Earth do this guys want? True, an MX5 will provide more fun & spills than a PDK Boxster. A 3.2 Carrera is arguably more fun than a 991 C2. But it all depends what you want. If it is fun on track, buy a Caterham. If you want a safe, fast, composed ride; a car able to withstand all that nature & UK roads can throw at it, buy a Macan.

Whatever, don't rubbish a Macan because it is too good! Typical motoring journos!
 


Derek, sadly the usual trash from EVO, so much so I even cancelled my subscription following a few article that seem to be similar to this one!
 
Sadly, EVO has lost some of their better journos recently and the general impression is of a more mainstream view and a lot of the same stories as the other mags. I'm missing Metcalfe/Harris 4etc.

Funnily enough I was in Iceland when they all had the new Disco Sport launched and all the cars got stuck and had to be dug out with snowploughs. Didn't seem to stop the locals though, including the bus drivers who carry on regardless, even in the teeth of a hurricane.
 
Makes a change for a Porsche to lose out, as EVO has long been held as being a Porsche magazine in all but name.
Still the best all round mag, but not as good as used to be.
 
I had an opportunity to drive an SQ5, bearing in mind I have a 2L TDI Q5, I thought the SQ5 would handle a lot better. It's certainly much quicker but it scared the living daylights out of me trying to corner it like a Macan S and Turbo that I have driven.
I think when I eventually change the Q5 it will probably be for a Macan and hopefully when the next version is announced 2016/7? it will be available as a plug in Hybrid as it will use the next gen Q5 platform which I am assured will have a hybrid option.
 
Gave the Mercedes GLA45 AMG a try before buying the Macan S. Looked great with carbon spoilers and splitters, but was an horrific understeerer and nearly ended up off the road during a test drive. Stopped the salesman from spouting on for a while, though! [:D]

Silly me, I initially assumed that EVO were comparing Q5 with Macan... it is not, so not like for like. All three cars are very different. The Macan is Q5 size (& weight), the Q3 is dinky, the Mercedes is not a true SUV. Typical EVO to just compare prices. They might just have compared a Rolls Royce with a Ferrari!

Not having driven one, I thought that may well be a very fair account of a Macan Turbo's ability?
