Evicted from the garage!

Martin Perry

New member
It looks as if my beloved SC is going to have to live outside for the foreseeable future because, for boring domestic reasons, the garage is about to be taken over by family junk. I'm going to have to get the seals sorted because the targa roof leaks when standing in rain just behind the top of the A frame on both sides.

I presume there are other members whose pride and joy has to suffer the English climate full on. How do you find they stand up to it, and can anyone recommend a good external use car cover?

And has anybody about 10 miles south-west of Bath got a garage I can borrow [;)]

Thanks

Martin

Martin, I used to leave my SC outside and for a few years used a Covercraft cover. It was an outdoor use cover and provided many years of excellent service. It kept out most of the worst weather. Biggest problems were the initial cost, very high winds, you really have to strap it down and inevitably moisture will get in and leave smears on your shiny paint. Just before I found a garage squirrels ate a 6" hole in the top and picked chunks out elsewhere completely ruining it, if you have them...... I could make a non 'pc' remark but you know where I am heading. Somewhere a family of squirrels has the most expensive nest material in the UK!. If you are parking outside a cover is not a must but it does provide substantial benefits providing air can get all around the car and dry it out after rain. Look around on the web and in mag's I'm sure there must be a few knew technologies out there by now.

wow you'd never think a Halfords cover was that good , does it scratch the paint at all?

[]Martin .... get a shed for the family junk and leave the car in the garage where it belongs ... Also remind she who must be obeyed that the insurance will rocket if left out at night [;)]

Martin,

If a shed won't fit take the junk to one of the self storage co's will be cheaper than the hike in the insurance.

Lets start a 'Garages are for cars' (and in my case bikes) campaign.

After reading all the latest posts, sorry I gave you bad advice about the cover. Tell the wife the car stays in the garage, what was I thinking?

Thanks guys. I will pass on the revised advice from our esteemed Assistant Secretary to my other half and I'm sure that as a result the problem will be quickly resolved and...I'll be off to Halfords. []

Kevin C - I already have a Blackbird under a cover outside- that was evicted for the SC!

On insurance, I've a classic policy with Carol Nash which will still cover the vehicle if not garaged as long as it's off the road, which mine will be. Didn't have to negotiate this - it was volunteered as part of the policy at the outset.

Bones, your sqirrel story worries me! We've got loads of the bu****s around where we live and they've been busy digging up our lawn for years. Looks like this is going to be interesting!

Cheers

Martin

Is there no end to your knowledge...?

Next you'll be telling me you know how to stop women leaving the toilet seat down!

(bit off thread - apologies)

If you're leaving it on the drive, as opposed to the street a collapsable garage maybe the answer, saw a coule at classic car shows.
They're like big tents.
Not pretty but it keeps them dry and I'd imagine there's little risk to the paint as the fabric is not touching the car.

Just a thought.

Why not put the junk in wife's indoor space and then she can live outside?

I have a feeling that if I follow all this advice it'll be me in the garage as well as the junk!

Have just seen the Car Covers thread on the 3.2 Carrera Forum. Looks like there's a bargain to be had from www.bigskycarcover.com - Covercraft covers from the 'States for less that half UK cost.

Worth checking out.

Wow, I used one for many years and had a a few 'moments' but I didn't manage to acheive full airborn status. Go find it before the squirrels do, come to think of it I would check for teeth marks on the cables.
