Karen and I attended our first R3 meeting on 11th February 2004. After entering the HUGE Pemberton Suite (and our initial impression that over 96 people were members) the bar lady (who said she thought "we looked like Porsche people") pointed us in the direction of a group of gentlemen deep in conversation by the bar. It turned out one of them was Stephen Doyle, the regional organiser who was in fact stepping down with his wife Vicky that evening but remaining an active member of the club.

The evening was very pleasant although with the background noise I did miss-hear a couple of conversations. One gentleman said he had been tempted to buy a BMW M3 but was disappointed and went for a Porsche Boxster. I had heard he was tempted on a Z3. That explains his puzzled face when I said the Boxster had more space and was more practical !!! Still, he has chosen a new Boxster so obviously he was switched on when my hearing aid should have been.

As shy "newbies" Karen and I were made to feel very welcome by Steve and Vicky and later Nick Stevenson who is taking over at the top came to chat to us. Nick explained he had arranged Porsche Center Newcastle to come to talk to the group next month.

So, all in all a good start and we will be attending again and looking forward to some of the events. A couple of suggestions:

Murder Mystery night at local hotel
Porsche Car Treasure Hunt

So if there are any North East region members who keep thinking they should attend a meeting then come along - its not as daunting as you may think !!

Regards,

Tim.

Hi TJM
I'm one of the fairly regular attendees at monthly meetings, and I must say it's nice to hear some positive and encouraging comments, and also new ideas for the future. You need to pass them on to Nick. I hope you continue to get benefit from membership, and that you will be able to participate in some of our forthcoming events.
Regards
Alan Burton
