Hi does anyone have any experience of European Breakdown cover?
Who to use who not to?
It seems many wont cover a vehicle over 15years old.
Myself and the other half are going to whizz down through France into the alps for a couple of weeks.
Thanks
Andy

Only ever used AA 5 Star & when I needed it worked very very well. Be careful of some of the foreign cover they can be very restrictive on age of vehicles.

+1 for ADAC, great value for money, get europe wide cover for less than domestic cover with AA or RAC. They send you an AA patrol when in the UK too. You need Plus membership for full Europe cover which includes the Nurburgring! Edd

Andy I got my breakdown cover just before Classic Le Mans and am glad I did , Car broke down on the way down it needed a new clutch Anyway the company I used was Europ and all I can say is that they where excellent, taxis, hire car, keeping me informed how the car was progressing etc and a UK help line. I got it through 2 gether insurance just click on the link or phone them up They will do Annual UK & EU cover for £67 50p no age limit on the car I did speak to Gary Haime there and got it for £65 phone number 01945 465508 [link=http://www.2getherinsurance.com/other-Products-breakdown-cover-7.aspx]http://www.2getherinsurance.com/other-Products-breakdown-cover-7.aspx[/link]

Just signed up with them on phone - number now changed: +49 1805 10 11 12. I can't believe how helpful and friendly they are (ignore the German "on Hold" voice over - as soon as you start speaking in english they connect you to a very helpful team. They even have an english speaker for "old-timer" cars (as he called mine). Even sent me email live to make sure he had copied my postal address down correctly.

I usually say ADAC here, but seeing that they have been suggested, I will add that Classicline used to give free European recovery with their classic policies. It now costs £55 and can be added at any point during the year - UK cover is still included. Simon

I think I still have UK & European recovery on my classicline policy (taken out Feb 2012) I also have my ADAC to renew - which was a lifesaver when my Honda needed to be recovered from Nurburg last year. ADAC covers the driver(s) rather than the car, so applies to all 3 of my cars.

Old thread resurrection! ADAC def best value and excellent service, will cover whole of Europe less than AA charges for UK only cover (79Euro v £89). Edd

They do have car value vs. cost to repatriate criteria though, so you have to be careful. Ed: I took my CL policy out at the beginning of May and Darren told me that theyd had to cut the Euro cover, due to the number of £120PA insured cars taking £1,200 trips back to Blighty on a flatbed. I was slightly disappointed not to receive it, but £55 for a year isnt bad, as youll pay at least that for three days cover from the AA. Simon
