Erratic starting and tickover FIXED

Had a real weird problem. Sometimes started perfect first time, then cut out a few miles down the road. Wouldn't restart, then after several attempts would start and run fine. Turn off the engine and it wouldn't always restart! Never knew what was gonna happen.
Also the tickover would drop very low, almost stall, and then recover.

Simon, at Hilcrest Cars has fixed it! Took a while to find it was a single pin in the connector to the MAF had gone green. Bless him for changing just the pin. He's a proper mechanic, not like modern car dealers who would of dismatled half the engine to replace the whole cable.

Anyway, all is is now working tickyboo. I'm sure it's running better than ever.

There's a lot to be said for mechanics who can still actually find difficult little faults and fix them properly and arent they getting rarer and rarer. The trouble is though to be fair to them , they still need to be charging you for their time and things can be hard to find. I'm glad you had a result.

Glad to hear your problem is solved and thank you for the good information - another devious fault exposed. It seems that virtually all the connectors in our cars are potentially a problem.

A couple of weeks ago one front turn signal stopped working. When I went to change the bulb it was a slight bit of corrosion between the bulb and socket so obviously I need new gaskets on the lens. Surprising part was that a very light bit on a small portion of the connector was enough to disrupt the circuit...
