Been outside looking around the bay at the engine sensors due to cold start issues but I need some help to find out what sensor does what. I have a blue one at the front, one just past it and then athe back there is one with 2 vac pipes. one of the pipes connects to the throttle body and the other is plugged. is it supposed to be like this? im guessing one is dme temp sensor which is the one I want and one is the gauge although im not sure which one is which. Also noticed that when I start the car cold I get a slight injecter leak but this is only on startup it doesnt leak afterwards. its at the top of the injecter.
thanks in advance.

Firstly, get the fuel leak fixed. Heard of lots of these set on fire due to rail leaks. It might just be an injector seal which is cheap to fix. I just discovered mine had a cracked fuel rail around the injector closest to the dizzy so it could also be that.

The DME temp sensor is the one with the bosch 2 pin plug like on the injectors I believe. I think the other one just has a metal spade connector and is for the gauge.

As described the blue topped sensor is the DME coolant sensor. The one with the spade connectors is the dash gauge sensor.

On my 2.7 both have the same type of connector! Front one is blue topped for the DME, rear one is brown topped with a different thread for the gauge.

thanks for the replies. Ill have a closer look at the fuel rail to see if thats cracked. Did think the dme sensor would be the blue one its the same on my mk2 golf and is known as the famous blue temp sensor. Lots of similar stuff on these cars I ve noticed.
Any idea on what the one at the back of the head is for? The pipe that was plugged has vacuum when the engines running.

My 2.5 had a cracked fuel rail too. Be careful when getting a replacement rail - there are at least 3 versions.

ok thanks for the info. If it is the fuel rail how would I go about getting the right one? is there a part number stamped somewhere for reference?

The 2.7 should have the regulator and damper on the same side at opposite ends - this is common to all the oval dash single cam N/A cars, not sure about the Turbos. The early square dash cars have the damper and the regulator at the back and on opposite sides - there are at least 2 versions of this layout and I'm bot sure about the twin cam cars.
