Eeek! Oil smoke

Won my matchplay singles at Ramsey 2&1 last night and pulled over on the mountain to ring the wife and ask her if she'd pop my tea on (she's very understanding), and without warning there's wafts of smoke appearing from under the bonnet[] Had only been going for a couple of miles at this point but popped the lid, and it looked like there's some fresh oil dropped onto an obviously hot pipe. Bear with me here - stood by the offside wheel arch it's underneath the big block with Porsche stamped on it, towards the left and dripping onto a pipe underneath. Took it easy the rest of the way home, didn't notice anything different in performance and no noticeable drop in oil pressure on the gauge, stayed at 5 and then dropped to 4 when idling outside the house for a couple of mins.

Will be popping it into the workshop tomorrow but likely to be anything serious?

Its likely to be a leaking cam tower gasket, and the oil will be dripping onto the exhaust manifold.

+1 for Simon's diagnosis there. Can be quite alarming but workable as long as you keep an eye on the levels until it can be repaired.

There's a small cover on the rear of the cam cover facing the firewall. Bolts were only finger tight on mine and it started to leak giving very similar symptoms. Might be worth a look because its a 5 minute job to check and tighten the bolts.

Could be the "fat hippo" gasket on the back of the cam tower - 3 x 10mm bolts and £1 for the gasket. Worth doing anyway, cam tower gasket itself is a little more involved but again - nothing major.
