Early Lux switch layout

On my early squaredash Lux, the switch panel on the back of the console (Rear wiper etc) has been butchered and altered. At the moment I have only three switches-rear wiper, headlight washers and the mirror changeover switch.
Our 924 has a fourth switch that switches the driving lights on and off. Question-should my 944 have the same switch or should it only have the three?

Ah-so it seems that I have a missing switch then. (I suspected that might be the case) Will have to try to track down the wiring if it's still there......[>:]
 
Yes it certainly should have a driving lamp switch. The only difference is that some years have a second blue tell tale on the binnacle and others dont.

Lux is a trim level though, not a model.

Not all square dash have two pairs of front lamps though, i.e. fogs and driving lamps that come on with main beam (when switch is activated.) I have these and the extra blue light on dash, if you only have one pair of front lights then I'm guessing these are fogs and therefore you wouldn't have the switch for the others?
 
No, all cars have the auxiliary driving lamps in the bumper which also contain sidelamps. Foglamps were an option - but I cant tell you any more becuase Ive never owned a car thats had them fitted in the PU.

I have had 924s and series one 944s and some have had the second high beam tell tale and others not, but Ive not noticed a pattern. The second tell tale is in the binnacle, rather than in the instruments.

I agree with Simon, the blue light in the dial is the headlight main beam and the second one in the binacle is for the driving lights.

All the square dash cars I can recall have had both, usually new owners need the system explaining, its not the most user friendly interface!
 
Interesting because my car (Square dash, no front fogs) doesn't have the extra blue telltale like my 924 does. Does this mean then that maybe my car doesnt have an extra switch for the driving lamps ?
 
No, all early cars have the switch. and all series two cars with an original style bumper have the lamps, but no way of turning them off.

I have what I believe to be a blanking plate for one of those switch holes, so if you decide you don't need the switch, PM me, I'll send it to you.
 
Thanks for that Steve, but the console has been butchered to accept non-standard switches so I'm going to replace it and reinstate the switch.
