I have removed lock backing plate which contains the lock barrel,they key turns in the barrel but does not turn the operating post fastened to the return spring.What connects the lock barrel to the operating post?.The key turns both ways,the sprung section also turns both ways if you grip the flat blade connector and turn,there seems to be no connection between the lock barrel and the connecting rod

The barrel has a blade on the back of it, which engages in the door lock. The door lock has the return spring in it. What can happen is that when a new lock is fitted, you have to be very careful to engage the blade into the slot in the lock. It is easy to fit the lock without the blade being engaged.

So how do you remove the lock barrel from the alloy housing part 15 in the diagram,Ive managed to get the silver cover off and the spring guard underneath,is the lock barrel pressed into the alloy body.The key turns the lock easily 90 degrees left / right,but doesnt turn the rest of the mechanism that goes into the slot on the door catch,the part sticking out the back of the alloy backplate,directly inline with the lock barrel?

I have never done it, so I have no idea. I suspect that you would have a problem doing it, as item 15 is only supplied as a complete assembly, with a barrel specifically made for your key. That's why it is £207.41 inc VAT. Ouch! [
