Dried rusty water spots on floor of garage

Hi, any clues as to what the cause of this could be? Parked car in garage after my usual weekend blast last weekend and when taking out this morning noticed three rusty looking spots on the floor, two below and at the rear (either side of the central exhaust) and one central along the passenger side.....it could be nothing and there's nothing obvious under the car that's rusty, any clues or thoughts??

I've noticed the same on my garage floor? Not sure, assumed it was from the brakes? Interested on anyone else's thoughts?
 
took a detailed look on the underside yesterday when cleaning and looks like there's a few rust spots on the end tail pipe (thought this wasn't made of steel) but no sign of any rust in mid section (passenger side) so no idea where that spot came from.......might make a call to the dealer for a quick check - less than 3 months old and only done 2K miles, wouldn't expect anything to be rusting yet!!
 
Never seen anything of the sort on my floor just damp patches from the tyres of course. My Cayman has now done over 45,000 mls. It makes me wonder what type of garage roof you have as if it's corrugated with bolts they could have rusted and dripped while you were out enjoying the drive, as for the tailpipe it is stainless or stainless coated but even galvanised bolts can get some rust staining which may explain that. Alternatively, if you ran through muddy standing water just before getting home it could then have run to low points and dripped off.
 
er no, clean dry (integral) double garage, fully insulated and used to house my other cars. The rust spots are definately rust and definately off the car. One for the dealer to sort I think.

I have seen exhausts with such colouring and whether it is from the pipes themselves or transferred from elsewhere would mean wiping it to see if it just comes off, but, if the car was running long enough for the tailpipes to get hot then nothing should be dripping. Porsche exhausts are supposed to be able to last 10 years and the only one I've changed was due to damage. A relatively short drive however could mean the rest of the exhaust with cold moist air inside pushes the moisture out until it hits the cold tailpipe and condenses then drips taking the water staining with it. Enjoy a longer drive?
 
Hi, yes, doesn't wipe off rust thickness in places is at least 1mm and it is corrosion rather than surface rust. Only every do long drives 100 miles/2 hours at a time. Looks like the exhaust is rusting to me, just wanted to check with anyone else if they had the same problem (or normal for Porsche - as this is my first). Certainly never had anything like this on any of my previous sportscars (Audi R8, BMW Z4M or three Audi TT's). Sent photo's to the dealer and waiting for a call back - nearest dealer is 120 miles away so want to get the issue registered for my next schedulled visit - unless the rust gets worse. Would appreciate if any other Cayman R drivers out there (must be some!) have anything similar. Thanks.
 
During the recent cold snap after milder weather I had condensation on lower half of car with small pools of water on garage floor on all 4 corners of car...... never seen it before & was more prominent on 'plastic' areas of car, that is PU's hth Paul
 
UPDATE : Had a call back from the Porsche Centre Aberdeen (where I bought the car) and told that 'Technical' at Porsche dont see it as a warranty issue as the exhaust is "outside of their control".....I'm sorry what?????!!!! Issue being sent to customer service. Car is less than 6 months old, just 2200 miles and they're trying to tell me that I should expect to deal with a rusty exhaust! I'm disgusted to be honest and worried about what I've bought in to, never had any issues like this before with other 'quality' marques...BMW, Audi, Land Rover etc. and it's put me off the whole Porsche ownership thing, if they want to crawl out of replacing this what's next?
 
You could query this with Porsche Cars GB at Reading, they can be contacted through the Porsche Website but as I said before Porsche exhausts are supposed to be rated for 10 years life and I would doubt an exhaust of this age approaching rusting through.
 
I have only some surface rust on my exhaust after 24K miles and 3 years. I'm surprised they wont consider replacement under the original warranty. My rusty wheel nuts were replaced. Maybe the cost is an issue, which it should not be [:mad:]
 
yeah thanks, same message seems to be coming from all quarters (even the dealer and service dept) that it isn't right BUT Porsche technical say it's not a warranty claim.......I'm getting ready for a fight I think but this has soured my experience of the car and made me worried for the period of my ownership. I thought I'd bought a premium product (£61K's worth) from a premium brnad.....but maybe I'm wrong. I'm still interested to hear from any Cayman R owners out there (placed a seperate posting to ask them to check their cars) - sure I'm not the only R owner on here??
 
Hi, I have a Cayman 2.9 PDK, sadly not the R version [:(], She is exactly 1 year old to the month and doing under 10000 miles. I have taken the following pics of the exhaust system. It looks like a bit of rust but I have never noted any rusty water spots in the garage. Hope this helps.

great, thanks, yes that's what I would expect it to look like after a year, not really rust it's just the heat pattern.......mine is definately rusted. Really helpful, thanks :)
 
good news, dealer has offered to replace BUT warned me that the exhaust isnt stainless steel......not sure that's true, anyone verify that the exhaust (I have the sports exhaust system) is Stainless Steel (not just the visible tail pipes)? I thought all modern exhaust systems were stainless so this was a little confusing for me.
 
all sorted, dealer replaced rusted parts and showed me what the exhaust system should look like 2 years on, there are parts that are steel and will show signs of corrosion BUT lesson learnt is that I'm not going to look under the car ;)
