doors seals

I realise door seals on our cars are approximately 20 years old so a new set will be beneficial. However, I'm interested in knowing if changing the door seals will stop the (horrible) tin like sound when closing doors. (This really annoys me for some reason.)

Or is there a solution anyone can suggest which addresses this?

I haven't had to change my door seals yet but when I changed the tailgate one it did provide a much stronger seal and a very solid clunk when closing it. I've heard talk that the later 968 seals are a much better item than the 944 version but please double check they fit before buying any

I changed the door seals in my s2 last year. Wasn't cheap but made a difference and was worth doing.

I have 'Dynamat' inside my door skins in order to improve the sound of my speakers - a surprising secondary benefit was the improved sound of closing the doors, it would appear that reducing the vibration of the skin makes the car sound far more modern and german when it clunks shut.

Thanks Joss, I may try the same.

Good advice I think - you know the fit will be right and there is a warranty on the parts....

These will make an extremely worthwhile upgrade for any 944 or 924. 924 or series one 944 owners cars will benefit from series two door seals too, if they can find any that are in good condition.

Changed them on my 993 last year, very quick, simple and rewarding job. Stopped water leak, eliminated wind noise, much better door-close sound. Not cheap (and different prices each side - apparently because the left hand ones sell in much higher volume and the accountants have learned how to divide now)

If anyone can get the 968 door seals at a good price let me know, I have seen them for £94 each which seems expensive

thanks

Gavin
